    Default 69 mm or 74mm?

setting up my board and i'm wondering if bigger wheels would be better for more grip?

They will not necessarily be more grippy. More important is the urethane formula and shape of the lips.

The diameter of the wheel does increase the contact patch, but more importantly, as stated above, is the lip, the durometer, and the width of the wheels. What wheels are you looking at that are of these two sizes?

If you are asking about the RF's the 69's have a grippier shape and feel grippier.

Do you have the slalom colored 69's that come with sidewinders?
    They are grip machines.

Go to any other online retailer. I prefer 74mm in 80a. Both are excellent wheels. I just like the 74s more. Couldn't tell you why. Just feel better to me

The Lime Zigs 80A are excellent longboard wheels, good traction, fast
smooth, and will slide if you really want em to.

They don't mesh with my style. The thane isn't as fast IMO and they don't slide as well as I would like. They do have a little more grip though... Maybe

usually bigger wheels are more grippy (but it's mostly contact patch, duro..)

the 69mm and 74mm are the same shape.

I have teh 74mm 78A Race Formulas and they are FANTASTIC wheels. They grip really well but slide really nicely with a precise release and hook-up.

either way i'm sure you'll be happy.

S9 race formula is definitly a staple in my quiver now

that is really weird, do you own both the zigs and the s9 RF? i have both of them and the RF's seem sooooo slow to me compared to the big zigs. they have the same bearings as well.

i now use the RF's when im going on steep downhills when i need to stay in control and the zigs when i am commuting on flats so i can go faster and keep speed longer.

it is a really really noticable difference. The first day i put the RF's on i was able to do a run from top to bottom that i usually have to bail, or stop before a couple steep sections.
the RF's are 70mm and the big Zigs are 75mm but they are the same duro.

if you want more grip you should get a lower derometer of urethane

ha ha, i have those as well.

here is how i would rank them for speed

    75mm bigzig 80a
    69mm sector 9 slalom wheels 75a
    70mm sector 9 RF's 80a

the RF's are quite a bit slower in my opinion. But the grip is insane!!!! i even have the 80a with the rounded lip and it is crazy grippy.

for a reference i have tired everyone of them back to back on my usual run by my house on my Dervish (lots of switching bearings around) so i feel i have a good idea how these three compare.

because i like to go slow and in control i am currenty in love with my RF's.
