Stoked to start Kracking Skulls
Greetings From British Columbia! This is a sweet forum, I have been stalking you all for a few days now.
I have a few buddies that longboard and after trying it I am pretty pumped. I decided to get the Kracked Skulls Scimitar 44" with Lime Freerides, oust bearings and the R-IIs.
It's not to late to stop the order I believe, have I chosen wisely? Even if it isn't the most high tech I just want to start skating some hills here on Saltspring, I live on a mountain and the island has lots of sweet hills (There was a Race here not long ago).
Any tips on starting out/setup tricks (bushing tips perhaps)
I am going to do some cruising, carving, baby bombing (for now) and all in all have a good time. Tell me everything I need to know!

Re: Stoked to start Kracking Skulls
seems like an awesome first board. check out coastlongboarding.com since your local to the coast. I think in terms of tips and stuff for starting. Start slow and remember to wear a helmet. How much do you weight and maybe we can help with the bushings.

Congrats on picking a great board. I just got my 40" Scimitar in myself. Shipping took about 6 days to get it to Vancouver. Here she is after staining the wood:

The new stock Randal bushings will do you fine. Just experiment with the tightness until you find what suits you best. Also one IMPORTANT thing: if your trucks are too loose bombing a hill, you'll get the dreaded speed wobbles and be chucked off your board, so be careful!

Whoa I just noticed you're from Saltspring. That's awesome! Saltspring rocks. I'll probably be heading up there sometime this summer. Saltspring + Hornby = best islands ever

Re: Stoked to start Kracking Skulls
I read the title and thought that Stoked was gonna start stocking KS. Anyway, that sounds like an excellent first board.

Re: Stoked to start Kracking Skulls
I don't like the stock randals at all. IMO you should try some red holeys. I find that hourglass shaped bushings have a smooth turn and good return to center thats not too fast that it'll throw you off your board.

Stain is awesome, but remember there is more you can do!

I used black silica on my board and it works great!

Great suggestion mon frare. Holey Hourglass bushings are incredible for carving. They do have a very impressive rebound. I use the bubble gum hourglass bushings in my drop carve. I love em.

i weigh 131 pounds, and am currently riding a loaded vanguard (bought before all the hype.) and i use 85a yellow venom barrels, amazing turn, and every reboundy (returns to center well) theyre super stable while pushing, and turn when you want them too, i love them. and who dosent love that florescent highlighter yellow?

Re: Stoked to start Kracking Skulls
Hey, be sure to buy a helmet and look into making some slide gloves. They are pretty cheap and will save your hands from the low speed noob falls you are sure to have.My first gloves were just plastic cutting board held on with Velcro.
At the top of a hill at a very rapid speed there's only one place to go.
At the top of a hill at a very high speed there's nowhere to go but down.

Re: Stoked to start Kracking Skulls
The stock bushings are ok. But i heard Khiro blue barrel (bottom) and white cone (top). I heard it was a good combination.
