How do you describe longboarding to potential recruits?
Figured I'd share this, just sent it out to a bunch of folks.
Fun times.

Putting the word out in case you or someone you know might be interested.
Been heavily into longboard skateboarding for the past couple months.
I have a bunch of boards, mostly home-made or scrapped together; extra gloves, pads, and helmets; and lots of fun places to skate.
Get in touch if you want to skate! No experience necessary.
Longboarding is substantially different than what you might think of as skateboarding. It's safer, easier to learn, and more fun to just cruise around. A longer deck gives you more stability, and larger wheels make for a comfortable ride even on rough surfaces.
From there there's a lot of different things people do with it:
Sliding - Using special gloves, putting hands on pavement while moving, and sliding the board sideways and into spins. Useful for slowing and stopping, and crazy fun.
Dancing - Cruising around with some headphones, walking around on the board, doing whatever moves you like.
Pumping - Propelling yourself without your feet leaving the board. Super aerobic.
Downhill racing - Speeds over 50mph with fullface helmets and full body leather suits.
And much more.
Been skating with four or five folks pretty regular, always fun with more people. Really any wheeled device is welcome, though it makes the most sense if you enjoy going down hills with it.

I can't believe you wrote all that and didn't mention FREERIDING once.
Don't you want your recruits to be on-trend?

i guess i would go a different way like:
Hey
You know when you go to the beach, and there is a bunch of people joggin, surfing, playing volleyball, and you wish you could or knew how to do some sports, but you want something more chillier and funnier?
You know when you go up to the mountains, and the road is surrounded by nature, giant awesome pine trees and whatever, and you wish you could just stop and enjoy it but you never had a reason or the guts to do it for the whole afternoon?
You know those times when you don't have to work, but everybody else is, and you go to the town and everybody is walking like crazy, like a zombie pack and you feel desperate for something that can take you somewhere else, maybe without any need to really be somewhere else?
You know when you are just freaking out and you need to get out and run like forrest, but you obviously don't have the legs to do so?
if you understand one or more of these feelings, than you are looking for longboarding.
Remember, we're riding on thin pieces of wood. We're fat asses and there's tons of stress. If you ride these skateboards how you're supposed to, things are going to happen to them.

I tend to get strange stares from my peers whenever i try to explain my hobby of speedboarding.
Maybe its a good idea to portray it less dangerous and more of a "express yourself" type of thing, Or maybe its because i study medieval history at the university of tromsø...
