Re: what the %#^$ is that?
I want to do urban assault riding like that so badly.
obstacle course intensity is very different from downhill intensity.
give me my freelines, a chase rider on freelines, and sneak me into disneyland. I will give you an intense video that never breaks 20mph.
continuously variable obstacle course riding is ####### GREAT. don't be hatin.
also, 0:55 is one HELL OF A ####### KICK

Re: what the %#^$ is that?
Alright look this argument is getting out of hand and very lengthy when it doesnt have to be. Putting all "races" aside and simply looking at the inital video posted.
Freeriding around town through traffic = takes no skill
Bombing precision hills at high speeds = tremendous skill
In both "freeride" video's you cant even argue that the people who are participating are even good at the "skill" that it takes to do what they are doing. In both video's the riders cause cars to stop when they shouldnt have had to. In the second video a rider nails some dude just walking across the cross walk. If they were "skilled" "freeriders" as your claiming then i assume they would atleast be able to ride with the flow of traffic without impeding it.
Downhill and Freeriding through traffic are very different and both require very different skills. But comparing a skill that every skater has (freeriding) and comparing a skill that very few skaters have attained (downhill) is just asinine. Ill stop this argument just ass soon as you admit that your wrong. Not that you need to anyway, everyone who knows anything about skating already knows that its much harder to fly by cars going speeds which exceed theirs, as appose to riding slowly along side cars parked in traffic.
I mean, most simply put. There is a reason why 250 people in one town can participate in this with ease.

in the end, its all about the thrill and love of skating
yes everything takes a certain amount of skill, but ahhhh idk i just lost my train of thought f***

I saw this post, and it appears to include a large variety of words. But I'll be god damned if every time I read it, it just says blah, blah, blah.
JK man - We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

I don't usually post much but I had too on this one. I grew up in NYC. I cant believe all the hate on this thread. This guy is killin' it. What a Sick vid!! It takes more than balls to navigate through traffic like he does. It doesn't matter what he wears or what he looks like. He's doing what he loves and he does it every day. Where's the love?
Longboarding rules too live by:

2. Don't be a Kook
on a side note: Anyone know if that's the Lower East Side?

Dont hate dude. New York is a special kinda place with a vib all its own. I doubt it, but have you ever ridden in a cabbie in NYC? Once you grow up alittle past 19 and travel some you will see. Dont hate.

Re: what the %#^$ is that?
We've got a half dozen young guys here who learned to bomb hills 50+ in a matter of months.
It's not that fukkin hard Mike, give it a rest for Christ's sake.
It's all skating and it's all good.
Any skate discipline at the higher levels takes a little time to master, whether it be Long Distance Pumping or Downhill or Freeride or Dancing or Slalom or Sliding, Luge, blah, blah, whatever.

Re: what the %#^$ is that?
I love riding through the city! pedestrian slalom is great and weaving through slow traffic gives me an even greater kick. i do it on my hellcat and with a bunch more style than the capris guy (i hope).

Re: what the %#^$ is that?
Congratulations Mike, Claremont is a harder hill than some others.
The film in question in the original post is a fun video and the guy riding is obviously good at what he does.
Post a film of yourself that entertains the crowd here more and then enjoy all the good vibe you might get.
Unfortunately.....somebody probably won't like your pants.

Haha im sure i would get blasted hard core after this thread, and not just for my pants. To be honest i dont really care about this argument, im not trying to be a kook or anything, I guess I prolly just got a little to board which resulted in defensivism (defiantly not a word). This particular comment just bugged me and kind of started this whole tangent.

That i just have a really hard time excepting or seeing an ounce of truth in. But that has nothing to do with the original video, those guys were doin some sweet shredding and i respect that. So sorry guys... Im not trying to catch a bad wrap.

Re: what the %#^$ is that?
the reason for the sparks is that the strike board rubs its hardware on the metal of the trucks.
You can notice the sparks only come when he does hard quick carves, and the hardware strikes against the truck
