Re: Boarder vs. Cyclers.
ive had nothing but pleasant experiences with bikers, (the older kind that is.) alright kiddies, circle up cuz its story time!
story one: we just finished a run and are chilling on a bench at the end of a bike path. (a very fun one i might add) and this guy, ripped, wearing tight clothes, you could tell he was hardcore, speeds past us without a word. he started to come back and stopped in front of us, i expected a scolding for breaking the speed limit on the path. but instead i got.
Guy: "wow. what exactly are those things?"
us: "they're called longboards, they are really fun actually"
Guy: "can i ask why you wear those gloves?"
us: "they are for sliding, you put your hands down and sort of skate sideways. wanna see?" (does coleman)
Guy: "wow id bust my butt doing that! wear can i get one?"
us: "theres a skateshop along _____ street in crystal lake, they are cool people who know what theyre talking about. i go in there a lot."
Guy: "so theyd hook me up with a good one to start on? how much are they?
us: "yeah they are very helpful, they range from anywhere to 150 to 1000 dollars, all of these are pretty cheap," (points at boards) "like under 300"
Guy: "cool, i think i might go there tomorrow and check it out, cept right now i gotta go. seya round"
(bikes off.)
he was about 35ish and was stoked. whether or not he ever got a board or not i dont know, but it was awesome.
story 2. my friend rides bikes FAR. like races a couple 100 miles at a time every summer. he saw my boards one day and was hooked. bought a sector 9 a few days later and still skates, hes now saving up for a new board.

Re: Boarder vs. Cyclers.
Like it or not we're on the same team as cyclists. We both share the road with cars and we will both lose badly to cars. We had a group of 20-30 cyclists cheering us on last Tuesday as we bombed a hill they were about to climb. It's pretty cool to see that they appreciated what we were doing assuming none of them had ever ridden a board.
There are assholes everywhere. Try not to be one of them while on your board or in general would be better. Be respectful and courteous and you most likely will receive the same treatment.

nah man. the space shuttle, while being able to perform very amazing feats, is just a collection of very complex machines, computers, and whatnot. in other words, a cluster#### of extremely complicated yet inefficient technology.
a bike on the other hand, is a simple yet efficient machine. a bike will take you anywhere on earth you dare to go. all under your own power.

BMX stands for Bicycle Motor Cross and there is a BMX track in every city in every country. How can they petition for something that already exists.
If they want to do something with their bikes that they weren't made for than that's their problem.
That would be like me putting wheels on my couch and petitioning to have couch riding legalized on the freeway.
BMX bikes do not belong in skateparks.
Snow mobiles do not belong on ski slopes
Plastic bottles do not belong in the metal can recycling bin

Re: Boarder vs. Cyclers.
Bikers aren't that much of a problem to me. A lot of times, I'll go with my friends who are all on bikes, and skitch by holding on the seat
I was once cruising down a light path, slightly downhill, and was challenged to a race by a biker. I lost, but I had a hell of a time pumping and pushing to keep up.

So much bike hate. I love my bike just as my as I love my skateboard. Take a ride on a decent MTB trail and it's pretty easy to realize why .

Skateboards do not belong on roads.
Skateboarders have skateparks they should stay there.
All these sports are evolving and sharing the same terrain, except for your couch.

Re: Boarder vs. Cyclers.
You really cant say one is better than the other cuz just as there is a large group of ppl who share a passion for boarding, there is prob more people who share a passion for biking... to each his own i guess.

Re: Boarder vs. Cyclers.
Sorry but I have to mention this...
Does anyone else get extremely pissed off when bikers ride in the road, especially if they're going well under the speed limit AND there is a sidewalk
No other cars seem to care, until I push in the shoulder on my board when there is no sidewalk and they get pissed as tits.

how dumb are you?
bicycles are considered vehicles much like cars and motorbikes and as such have the same rights on the road. It is illegal in most places to ride a bike on the sidewalk with the exception of little kids' bikes.
how does someone as ignorant of traffic laws as you manage to get a driver's license?

Re: Boarder vs. Cyclers.
Yeah same here in Oz. Youre not supposed to cycle on the sidewalk.
Ridiculous rules that are only in place because some people have no common sense. If you go to Japan, plenty of cyclists ride on the sidewalks,... but they dont hammer along,... they ride at a non threatening speed on the sidewalk. Ride on the road if you are going fast, but the sidewalk is OK if you dont want to be on the road,... just go slower, and warn people you are going to pass.
Same rule should apply to skaters. USE YOUR COMMON SENSE. If you are riding on a busy sidewalk you should keep the pace down to a fast walking pace. And not behave like you own the sidewalk. You should be friendly to people on the sidewalk, wave and say good morning etc.... Dont make people get out of the way.
It will do a lot for our public image as a whole if people are not threatened by us.
As for cyclists at our favorite downhill spot,... they love us. They think we are crazy, but will actually stop and watch us bomb. Some try and keep up with us too, tell us how fast we are going.
Dont eat lead paint.

Re: Boarder vs. Cyclers.
I love my bikes just as much as my boards... (even through the pain of a 35mph crash in a group ride this morning at around 5:50am...I can now say that the road has done more damage to me in one fell swoop than most people have in their whole life... i think......and I hope to be riding my board by monday )
I have never had a problem with a cyclist while i was on my board

4) in that case you need to stfu about stuff you don't know the first thing about.
