    (some) longboarders wear leather suits.
    (most) cyclists wear lycra suits.
both are made to protect against road rash.
both are tight to the skin.
    longboards costs a lot.
    bikes cost a lot.
    precision trucks.
    precision chainrigs.

Lycra doesn't protect against road rash. It tears very easily when you crash, and it heats up from the friction of sliding on the ground (I have a seam from my shorts permanently burned into my thigh from a crash during a crit about 18 years ago). What lycra cycling clothing does do is wick away perspiration, reduce chaffing by not bunching up, and reduce drag by not flapping in the wind. Its all about comfort and performance, at least right up until the second you crash...

here's the deal with bikers. because they go the fastest without too much trouble, the same assholes in their cars that think they own the road are now on bikes and the rest is history. Not all bikers are jerks but let me tell ya a story. I ran a biker off the road on my motorcycle that was giving me #### on a bike path and told him, you mess with me again, i will knock you off the bike next time. he apologized.

I give them lots of room and when they whizz by me real close I take offense. In fact in true skogging position I've been able to hold up my arms and fist in striking position when they try that too close for comfort move. If they're gonna take me down, their head is gonna get a face full of fist.

and when they make fun of skateboards i just tell them,, dude, you're on a bike making fun of me? "how's that seat up your ass? like it ?"

not all bikers are jerks just like skaters but you gotta admit, some of them think riding a bike is god's gift to man and they are so talented.. WRONG!

Saw a lot of fixies downtown at the Red Bull Soap Box Race yesterday. I still don't understand the allure.
Yeah, BMX is the way to go. I never understand when people ride fixies either. If you can't go past a certain speed (no freewheel), can only skid to stop and ride bars as wide as a tooth pick, fixies just seem pointless. I'd rather ride a bmx or a geared road bike for commuting which is faster than a fixie anyway.

Narrow bars aren't inherent to fixies. That current trend came from bike messengers, who need to be able to ride through really tight spots, like in between stopped cars. The vast majority of fixies are sold with standard width bars. What you're seeing is more of a wanna-be messenger trend, rather than something inherent to fixies.

Several years ago, it was really trendy for BMXers to cut down their bars as narrow as possible, or use bars from little kids' bikes, to get as narrow as possible...

I feel like being in a car brings out the worst in a lot of people, something that being on a board or on a bike almost never does. Sure some cyclists can be dicks, they were dicks to start with, not the bike's fault. Long and shortboarders can be dicks, but that's probably because they're either 12 years old and wearing tights and ugly shoes, or they were dicks to start out with also.

Yeah, I meant the kind of fixie trend where people try to be sort of poser bike messengers. I understand the idea of small bars to get through cars etc, but a while ago I saw a vid of a fixie rider running really small bars. He was hitting a hill at 40 (pretty much the fastest you can go on a fixie depending on gear ratios etc), and because he was peadling so fast his feet just popped off, and he ate ####.

oh boy running bikers off the road with a motorcycle, sounds legal to me?

last time I checked, motorcycles weren't legal on bicycle paths to begin with.

pull that #### in seattle doesn't get an apology, more like mace in the face.
