Dear Longboard Haters, now's the time we're coming out swinging...
I haven't the time or much inclination to sift through the 12 pages of "You're not skateboarders."
The thread is so close to being locked...I sense the photo of a few dozen fat guys (naked) probably is the last gasp....but I digress.
The fact remains that well before the internet, trolls lived in the dark regions and reared their ugly heads on unsuspecting citizens. This guy got what he wanted....he got a rise out of us. But, as you can clearly see, he's not sticking around much to hear the arguments.
Gandhi said it best: first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.
For years, the skate industry felt it could dictate what you did and what you thought. It was a control and command system. Like many things (ie: the record business, the newspaper biz and governments for example) the internet has changed the playing field...it's changed the way we relate to the world and what we do in this world.
This place, this amazing community here on the fish that brings so much joy and information to people has given skateboarding a huge amount.
The irony is that most folks who work in the skateboard world don't even know of its existence.
I am proud of the fact that longboarding is part of skateboarding...and I am proud to be a supporter of this site.
Here's a newsflash for the haters of anything that "they don't perceive as real skateboarding."
WE ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE. OUR NUMBERS ARE GROWING. SKATEBOARDING IS CHANGING.
If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
2010...just you ####### wait!

REVOLT! REVOLT!
haha who care what haters say. fact of the matter is trick decks got their origins from longboards and we kept the style. If anything they are the off-breed. just surf them concrete waves, toke the nectar of mother earth and out class them with style.
Let the good vibes flow!
Someone should shut down that thread though. what's the point in keeping it? only gunna neg the vibes on this wonderful Friday... hollow's eve baby! Can't wait to see those costume riders!

I really don't understand the hositility to longboarders from "skate"boarders since each size in length and shape of deck has a purpose and a reason. I mean I own a "trick" deck, a somewhat "longboard", and soon to own a shortboard and they all have their purpose and reason why I own it.
If anything skateboarders should be uniting against the hostility "everyday people" some exhibit to the sport...

Fixed. Aren't you supposed to be a publisher or something?
On another note, I was going to let anti-longboarding talk bother me, but then I decided I was going to keep on living my life. If someone doesn't agree with me for what I consider a stupid reason, I'll ignore them. Speaking out against longboarding isn't an active resistance. It's not like there are a lot of longboard haters are going around attacking us, and physically preventing us from doing our sport.
If anything I feel bad for the people who hate on longboarding. They are nothing but ignorant if they can't respect our choices, and they clearly have yet to grow a pair of balls if all they can do to stop us is post some garbage on the internet. Keep on living your lives. I haven't even read that thread that this thread is about.

Re: Dear Longboard Haters, now's the time we're coming out swinging...
Honestly the guy was bored and was looking for something to do. All he was trying to do was get a rise out of a bunch of us and it seemed to work quite well. I couldn't care less whether or not I'm a "skateboarder" (or more precisely looked upon as one). I've ridden for over 35 years and in the beginning it was "What are you doing riding that toy?" Didn't bother me. Then I rode because it was fun... come to think of it that's why I ride now. Not because of a certain perceived notion.
Funny thing is I haven't really posted lately in here (been too busy with stuff like riding and other real life endeavors) but I came in here a week or so ago because I just got a Big Stick and I wanted to see if anyone on here was using one. Found a few posts and within found a few people ragging on them for various reasons. Kind of ironic. People are alway tolerable to things they like or are associated with. And that's just one example. Looks to me like we're eating our own just as much as some goof looking for a little cyber fun is. Gandi quotes are all fine and good but people are going to be people and in this world some of them are just jerks. Do things for your own personal reasons. That's why I've always loved skateboarding. You could do it yourself without a team. You only had you.......... and that's good enough.

Re: Dear Longboard Haters, now's the time we're coming out swinging...
Ignorance is soluble, but stupid is forever. There are a few haters who are ignorant, who formed their opinion on this (awesome) branch of skateboarding based on what the stupid haters have told them, however they have an open mind and will ratify what you say and their opinion may be changed... or not. If not then these people fall into the stupid category, who are not ignorant to the genius behind this sport but are ignorant to themselves and how self conscience they are when it comes to skateboarding. They lack any logical reasoning behind their fiery hate for longboarding other than the fact that it's "gay."
I am not saying they are stupid if they dislike longboarding, but they are stupid because they dislike it for the sake of disliking something that is widely disliked. This is what separates skaters from posers, the ones that don't understand why they are skating other than the fact that it's the latest vogue among young males are not skaters. As we exit a slump in skateboarding history it's important to advertise this fact, tell your friends, anyone who starts to skate. Tell the ones who are skating for attention now and the future will be brighter for skating.
Love.

Around here, there aren't much haters. When I run into short-boarders, whether it be at the park or on the streets, they're really friendly and eager to see what I can do on my board and want to try it. They get more respect for you once they experience your board and it's tendencies. They respect you even more when you get on their board and rip up a bowl. Those that hate, just don't know.

Hey Michael, sounds like you just finished reading The World is Flat. If you haven't, you should, I think you would enjoy it.
