I have pretty crappy ankles myself (see, "I'm a walking accident" lol ), and my first board did not really help much because it was so heavy. My gf let me try her board (Loaded Derv) and I loved the light feel of the board and the fact that my pushes would go further, thus deciding it was time for a new board. Like you, I have to be weary of my ankles and not push them to much, so I wanted a board that carved like a snowboard or wakeboard yet was light as a feather, which lead me to guys at Original Skateboards. They have a nice selection of boards for different types of boarders, I ended up picking the Apex 37 and have fallen in love with it!

I ride every chance I get now and my ankles barely feel the strain (unless I do a 12 or 15 mile ride, than I'm hurting the next day lol) or if it's raining, gotta love living in Washinton lol. I read that you were thinking about a new board and thought you might want to check out their setups, let me know what you think. I'm already planning on my next board being a Custom 45. Glad to hear of a another person willing to find a way to have fun even with having some body part(s) that have decided not to work correctly.

Keep spreadin' the Stoke!

Right now I gotta get down carving as a way of controlling my speed
footbreaking is a pretty valuable skill for speed control too if you aren't already doing that....and speed wobbles are best controlled by relaxing, along with that more weight in front thing someone mentioned already.

also! i second the motion for you to reveal your setup! and how it feels. i've been toying with the idea of getting a widerglider for some time now

hey, while waiting on a helmet, wear your hockey one! its not probably not as secure as a proper helmet, but it'll protect your cranium in the mean time!

Thanks for all the support guys, and I am gonna look into that free helmet thing. I definately couldnt wear my hockey lid skating cause I'm a goalie, therefore it would be a goalie mask, so not only would I look weird but I wouldnt want to damage it.

Jase: I want an Original soooo bad! I really want a custom 35 or an apex. As far as the wider glider its pretty heavy, I added the set up to my sig so you can all see. Good on you Jase for getting out there too, I know how it is.

I figured I'd update you on how things are going...not good. My elbow healed up nice and quick. Everything went really well. But the deformity or bone bridge in my right foot has swollen up really bad. I'm not sure why, but I have a hunch though that possibly the bone bridge is just continuing to grow. My right foot is really painful and the movement is pretty limited. I can barely walk, so skating is out of the question, I tried today, and after 10 minutes I knew it was a no go. I'm waiting for the swelling to go down and the pain to subside, its been about 4-5 days, and its gotten worse today. So, I dont know what to do, I'm away from my regular doctor...so, right now I'm just waiting. Hopefully it improves, but right now it looks like my right is deteriorating like my left did, although I'm puzzled cause my bones have stopped growing...I'm gonna buy an ankle brace for my right foot now as well and if things dont improve I'm going to see my doctor. But, skating is off limits until the pain goes away and I can push and balance again....

Whatever you do, don't try to skate with the brace, bad idea, at least it was for me. I ended up doing more damage to my foot because of the brace. If you need to ride, try using ace bandage wrap, make sure to wrap it tight enough that it helps, but keep it just loose enough so your not strangling your foot and ankle while you're pushing or standing on it. If the swelling hasn't gotten any better by thursday, SEE A DOCTOR! You could have a nasty problem with your foot and the last thing you want to do is make it worse because you wanted to tough it out, believe me lol it's not worth it.

I actually already skate with a brace on my left foot. Its a loose brace, but still a brace. It helps my bones to align themselves and then stay put so they dont grind. The pain has gone down, but the swelling is still there. Honestly it feels exactly like what my left foot felt like when it started to fuse. I was able to flex my feet enough to gain some movement back, sometimes my bones catch on each other so essentially I have to "crack a knuckle" in my feet and I get some relief. The foot actually feels better this morning, but we'll see. I'm keeping on eye on it, I can walk, so thats a good thing. Hopefully the last couple days have been my foot just freaking out a little and nothing more serious.
