Four weeks ago tomorrow, I got too far forward when I started carving down my street and ate it hard when I carved to the right and the front wheel caught them toes hanging out there.
Today I moved to a new building. Before unloading my truck I pulled the FSM out to take a cruise around the new digs. Pushed down a grade on the other side, got in to position to carve to the end. Changing front foot position while carving to the right I hit the wheel with my toes again. I didn't get chucked off the front this time as I wasn't going as fast. But I felt the wheel, stepped back with the rear foot and ended up starting the splits until I felt the right knee getting the stoke twisted out of it. Damn it!! Fat wallet was bad for the right butt cheek. The right knee is now stiffening up and aching and the left knee got a minor tweak too.
Should I go through and put toe stops or something like the slalom boarders on all my dropthroughs?
Is part of the problem because I ride top mounts and have a tendency to always get up on the front of the deck.
This sucks because after a week of dismal, cold, cloudy rain, Sat/Sun is going to be 50's and very nice. Plus I just got an FSM mini I was going to set up and my Boomerang is coming in Saturday. I won't be riding squat now.
damn i thought this was about Dangerous Decks making a drop through.
it sounds like you just need to adjust your foot placement. i mean if your hitting you foot on the wheel, then theres some hangover that you need to take care of. if your foot is sliding around then grab some new grip.

you can grab some c-blocks from sk8kings.com to setup some foot stops an concave.

@Snozz , I actually have some of that stuff. Forget why I ordered it but I've not used it. Feet aren't sliding it's just getting too far forward and hanging toes in the cutout. The first time it was dark, late and I was feeling the Bud. Today I wasn't paying attention either, but looking around in case I had an audience. sheesh. I just need something in that corner to at least let me know I'm hanging in the wind without having to look down.
When I first got my drop-through I had the opposite problem. My foot was to far back and rubbing against the back wheels. Once I realized what was happening I just made a conscious effort to not step back so far. It took a little getting used to but now it's no problem.

Yeah, when I first got my FSM a while back I had the same problem. Now I can just put my toe to the edges front and back by feel... then again, I have thin-soled shoes that let me feel every bit of the concave... like too much. My feet hurt after just a mile of pumping. I'm gonna have to wait to see what new shoes may do... at least these Emericas are comfy walking shoes.
What state is your grip in? What kind of grip? I've been wanting a toe stop for my dropthroughs too. Tell me if you come up with a design please.
c blocks work great for toe stops. used them on an old slalom deck n my foot was secure and then some

i thought this was about Dangerous Decks making a drop through.
it wont be long
as far as drop thrus go, just get used to it. i had that problem loads on my first drop thru just teach yourself to skate further back on the board... no need to go screwing+gluing stuff to your deck. just learn to skate drop thrus
CRAP!! I might've been able to get up and finish what I was doing this afternoon but I just got out of bed to take a leak. Not good.
I ride the drop throughs more than anything. I guess it's just two careless mistakes after getting a little cocky and more agressive and not doing a visual check on the toes.
Kind of an added value on the Scimitar is that top riser plate which tells me where my toes are at without looking. There was something about the Nelson Freeride that gets me perfect foot placement without looking. Clutch decks have such a wicked concave that toes on the rail edge are angled up.
Rather than a toe stop, like a bushing or block screwed on, I'm thinking a big panhead screw or bolt and washer put on that front right corner. It'd give the tactile feel of placement like the plate on the KS.
Besides getting used to the dropthrough, maybe on your next board consider the wheelbase and how comfortable you feel standing on it. Maybe your stance is just a little too wide for the wheelbase.
When I first got my dervish, I would always forget, and get chucked, but now, it's like my best friend. Give it time. Good luck with you injuries

I'd get some very grippy grip (vicious) and tape around the "danger" area. That way your foot will kinda stop there and you will know where your foot is without looking. Tis what i did in your situation.

Sorry to hear it, big guy. C'est la vie. I prefer topmounts because I don't like 2 big holes in my board ready to create a structural integrity problem, and they do somewhat prevent what happened in your situation. Here's wishing ya' a speedy healing, and try some Arnica for the pain.
That said, I think your idea for panhead screw might work. Lemme know how it goes, I might wanna implement that on my FSM mini as well.
