Aussie Longboard Scene
So, i have been reading numerous posts about the American situation; everyone seems to be hating on longboarders over there.
Reading about this is rather eye opening for me, because as an Aussie, living on the westcoast here in Perth, i'm yet to experience the hate. Over here, well at least in Perth the LB scene is still small but it seems to be growing. At the moment maybe we're in the honeymoon stage of our LBing marriage :P People love it!
I get comments all the time about how cool it looks and how much fun it must be to do. Another great aspect is the cops, i haven't had a run in yet after about 6 months of skating. The other day i had an old bloke comment about how crazy i must be to be going so fast down hills. Iv'e just read so much negative stuff about the publics perception off longboarding in the US that i thought i'd share some stoke.
It does leave me worried about the future though, and i hope we don't get to the stage where it becomes hard to find a place to skate without people complaining. At the moment it's great and i hope it doesn't change. Just thought i'd fill the world in on what it's like in Aus.
/end rant

welcome to the USA, land of the free.... home of the most prisoners in the world
skateboarding is a crime, don't ya know? get with the times Australia
In all seriousness, though, I am stoked for your guys' LB scene! I've browsed around the ASRA a bit and it almost seems like a different world. I sure wouldn't mind studying abroad in Australia for a few months

Well we'll see how long the nice scene lasts. Maybe things will change, i seriously hope not. And come for a visit man, skating with some other people from the world would be sweet!

heh, wish I had the same experience, though it's a lot better than it was ten years ago, most skaters down here seem to have a transworld magazine wedged firmly up...
oh and I probably owe the gov over a grand in unpaid fines, I was given a $160 one once.

Haha, well i hope you never pay em. Maybe the cops down in Hobart have nothing better to do then arrest the would be skater.
