A second board, need help choosing!
Hey guys, I'm looking for a new board, my first one is a pintail with 75mm otangs and 150 randals and I love it! But im looking for a new feel in my second board..
Like with the pintail, although the concave lets you get a nice feel for the board, you need a short stance to get the feel of it so Im looking for a board around 40" Since riding loads of friends boards I wanted a nice pintail that I could just cruise around on but was soon put off because of the almost sluggish turning feel they had, you cant just lean into a carve like you can on the pintail (I expect its the bushings but still ) And now Im looking at getting a dropthrough board, something that is nice to carve, around 40", a decent concave but it allows your feet to REALLY lock into the board so you get a nice feel for the board, just imagine a downhill speedboard but a bit mellower and suitable for cruisecarving (: but I dont just wanna get a dervish.. I wanna see a few more boards and choices. Can anyone help? Not being specific about the board but I dont wanna part with my money feeling as though Ive wasted it OH! and whats everyones feelings on carvestiks? I had a go on a mates and absolutely loved it but christ theyre heavy to push with :L

an FSM fits your discription. a regular top mount board will be MUCH turnier than a drop through though. Just simple leverage. If i were you i'd get either an FSMini flushcut or a Legendary Demon (drop through if you really want it). The cool part about Legendary is that you can pretty much customize your boards colors/stain.

look into Kracked Skulls M1 or Scimitar, good price and nice boards. have a 46" scimi and like it more than my dervish.

A 40somethinginch pintail might give you a narrow stance, but a 40somethinginch "race shape" will allow for a wider stance, fyi.

Cool!
I own a dropped FSM. I really like it, but unless your really into fast freeriding, a flushmount (basicaly a topmount) would be better. Its more structuraly sound as well. Knowing what i know now, i probably wouldve gotten a flushed FSM/FSMini. They have more "turnability" and are better for the tricks you will want to learn. the FSM/Mini has gnar concave, its thats what your looking for.
I have never ridden a Legendary Demon/Griffin, but i love Legendary as a company, and i owe a drop thru'd gnome (which is basicaly a mini demon, same concave and everything) and love it.
You'll be happy with either one. Just decide which you'd prefer. Comet will give you a recyclable (spelling?) board, quick, and Legendary will give you a one-of-a-kind custom board, but you will have a little bit of a wait. You cant go wrong with either though.

Re: A second board, need help choosing!
Okay, so a 40" lets me have a comfortably long stance, and I know 8"+ wide skateboards fit my size 11 feet nicely, allowing me for a wide stance, but..
The krackedskull 46" looks really nice, but 46" is a bit big for me xD

I think that a flushmount does sound better, since I've only ever ridden one topmount before and it was alright.
The legendary boards do look and sound nice to ride, but I think im in love with the comet FSM. I gotta ask, is their any difference apart from the logo between the 3 FSM's? And I need to choose wheels and trucks still! I have basiclly no physical experience when it comes to trucks because all my friends boards are weird unbranded ones and Ive only ever ridden randals.

Re: A second board, need help choosing!
The FSM fits my size 13s so dont worry!
Allow me to help:
Flush Comet FSM (No difference in board besides graphics)
MHS Core/Indy Hybrids
81a Classic Freerides (also on MHS...Mile High Skates)
If you order wheels from MHS you get free bearings so...done and done-er. Actually, MHS may have a complete FSM! Check it out!

I have these on my dancer but when we put it on my friends dervish, it slid really well. If you just wanna do carving and stuff, id get bigzigs. They are bigger and have a much larger contact patch giving you a smoother ride.

Re: A second board, need help choosing!
i'd still go FSM. True, it is pretty solid, but that just makes for a stronger, more responsive (less "waste" from the flex), and more stable ride at speed. The FSM is low and has rocker, so commuting is crazy easy. I'd get that. Although the NOLA Freeride and Legendary griffin would be similar/customizable choices.
Oh, and the amber 81a Freerides (look 'em up at longboardskater.com) are crazy smooth for commuting (much smoother than my reflex-formula freerides), and slide silently. Its actually almost scary the first couple times sliding with these bad boys. Its SO smooth you dont even know your sliding. Plus they leave awsome thane lines! They have ruby-colored freerides in 78a which would give a smoother/softer ride, and im sure the slide would be smooth still (its still made of Abec11 "Classic" 'thane which has a sickly smooth slide).
Have fun!

Re: A second board, need help choosing!
For trucks, you can stick with your randals, they're a very nice truck, well rounded, and very customizable. If you want more stability, get 42* plates, if you want a more responsive board, go with the 50* plates. Also, new bushings will give your board and trucks new life, I was amazed when I switched out my stock randal bushings.
If you feel like experimenting with different trucks, you could try paris trucks or the new sabre trucks. I actually ordered the sabres today, I can't wait

NO! Dont go with reverse KP trucks on a FSM (I did...mistake). Its seems like no big deal, but Indy style (standard KP) trucks make a world of difference. Trust me. You'll be a lot happier with some core-indy hybrids, or 4.3 bennetts + extensions to ~180mm. Do it haha.

hows it different? I want to get an fsm eventually so im curious
To me, indy style trucks remind me of the constricted shortboard days, carving seemed dead with those even when i had soft bushings compared to the reversed kp. I could be wrong though.
