I don't have very good "tires"
Just a story that I find kind of funny that you guys might enjoy. It happened about a month ago, but I just remembered it and it made me laugh.
So about a month ago, I was out with two of my friends just cruising around. I had my slide gloves with me, and was just learning hands down slides at that point. We rode through a public park that had a skatepark in it, hoping that there wouldn't be very many street skaters, and we could just mess around in there. But there were more people than we had expected, so we kept our distance, and were just going to ride on, when one of the skaters yells at me "Hey, nice gloves! Why don't you do a slide!". I figured he might have longboarded too, so I went over. Turns out, he was a total moron, but what he said was hilarious. He tells me to do a slide, and because I wasn't very good at that time, I didnt want to, so i said nahh. He tells me that it's easy and he knows how to do it, so I told him to try it on my board. He looked down at my wheels, a set of Lime ZigZags, and says that he might not be able to do it on my "tires". So i played along with it, and asked him what kind of "tires" he learned to slide on. I didn't quite understand what he said, he kinda mumbled something about like "mhmhhpphsomeyellowonesmmhmd". I just figured he was a total idiot, and knew nothing about longboards, so I said that I had to go, and just left.
And now me and one of my friends, when we talk about our wheels, we call them "tires". "Oh hey, it looks like your tires are coning!", "Dude, you should bevel your tires.", "Man, it's so hard to slide on these tires."

Re: I don't have very good "tires"
i chuckle when people say i have big wheels when i am riding my 62mm cambrias
i was in my local skateshop, one of the managers was letting me use his skate tool to put on a indy 129 hanger on a cindy 0* plate. he was dumbfounded about how tight my wheels were, so i took them apart, put the bearing spacer assembly on the axle by themselves, and told him to tight as much as he could. he did, and he just still amazed of how well they spun. i then told him i had cut face the hangers so that everything was perfectly in line. he was like, what ABEC are those, and i told him i haven't the faintest clue, just the cheapest i could find. (they were MHS) he's a cool manager, but its a shortboard store, so the technical stuff isn't their prerogative to know. i will admit, i had a complicated setup. a set of bennett 5.0 i cut down to 105mm, space-able to 125mm. and had some pps cone crushers (pre-coned slalom wheels)
its not really fun to laugh at people ignorance. i'd rather teach someone about my sport, and leave them curious to learn more on there own. maybe this guy will use bearing spacers on his setups from now on.

One elderly gentleman once told me that my NYLON wheels are not very good and that he could design better trucks than I have.

One of my friends used to shortboard, and he also calls my wheels 'tires', and said that my 65mm 90a slide wheels were really soft and cushy.

Make every day count, it's a beautiful world out there, and it will all be over before you know it.

Re: I don't have very good "tires"
I was sliding in my neighbor hood last summer and some redneck was watching and said "Ya'll gonna need some new tires sooner than later!"
.... yea
I have a bunch of skateboards
Isn't this what you're supposed to put in a signature?

Bottom line of this story: You clearly need some better sliding tires.

Re: I don't have very good "tires"
The other day my friend, my brother and I were looking at longboards. I showed them a picture of the SF Hoodwalker, and my friend goes "Dude, that's a long board."
it made me lol a little because it's a longboard, but it's also quite long.
idk...maybe it was a "you have to be there" moments.

The kid at the skatepark didn't "get" anything - but now there's a thread he'll never see dedicated to letting people he'll never meet laugh at his ignorance behind his back. It all just seems rather tasteless to me.
+measly rep for flannelman

no ones rep is measly. rep points mean nothing to me. i just peak in to see it i am doing the right thing, and being noticed for it. i was actually surprised i got rep from this post. so thank you for that. i wish there was just a way to say hey,i like you post, without it building extremely visible points.
this is what i do if someone is clearly out to belittle me. i just walk away, and give them nothing. i let them have their hate, and live with it. i let is be their problem and get to them. i dont feed the troll, i let him live under his bridge all alone.
