Phoenix Downhill, race organizing
As you all know, Arizona is a great state for downhill skateboarding. Epic hills, year round sunshine, and best of all IT'S LEGAL. We have a great scene that is growing every day and we are having an insufficient amount of riding events! We have good sized sessions every couple of days but we need EVENTS: races, pushers, freerides, the like. My goal is to provide, through the help of local fundraisers, raffles, benefit concerts, and of course longboard events, a series of legitimate, AFFORDABLE, safe, closed road races in the state of Arizona and eventually all across the southwest.
You could say that my goal is to be a sanctioning body but I am not seeking profit. For the Time being I am trying to grow awareness to the local and state governments about our sport and I think a registered business is the way to do it. For that reason, I am registered and licensed with the state of Arizona as Phoenix Downhill Longboarding.
I will be starting out with small fund raisers and "outlaw" events to begin generating revenue for larger, legitimate races. The format for any race that I, as Phoenix Downhill, organize will be a 10 dollar entry fee. Half of the total pot will go to the winner(s) of the race, a quarter will go to anyone shuttling the racers, and the final quarter will go to the organization. I will be doing my best to organize regular fund raisers at local valley businesses and restaurants. I will also be attempting to organize benefit concerts in the name of Phoenix Downhill. Any profits made through this company will go straight to a bank account in the Phoenix Downhill name, not under my name. I will use none of this money for personal, only for the advancement of the sport.
Of course, I do have long term goals; I would like to create the first ever downhill skatepark in the mountains of Arizona. This is a large undertaking as paving a road is no cheap feat. I will need the help and support of the parks and recreation department of Phoenix in order to do this. Let's face it, the state wants to see some cash flow and that's where we come in. We need to show Arizona, and eventually other states that downhill skateboarding can and will generate revenue through events and that people will show up to the events once they are put together!
I can't do this without the help of each and every one of you so I ask you, if you can make it to an event, if you can make it to a fundraiser, if you can spread the word, please do! I will post updates as they occur so keep checking in.
Ride fast, and ride safe

Much respect for what you're trying to do here in Phoenix. Although I've never skated with you I'm sure we'll meet sometime considering the community here.

Re: Phoenix Downhill, race organizing
Thanks for the support guys! There's not much that can be done at the moment except putting together fundraisers and outlaws. We now have two outaw series' starting this month so you can expect at least 2 outlaws a month (possibly more but two for sure). We have the AZminiOutlaw series which was Cole's idea that will be taking place once a month, and the Fullmoon Outlaw series which is Ryan's brainchild which will be taking place EVERY full moon on a different course. First one is this weekend (saturday I believe) at MM Ranch. And then there will be any random outlaws that any one of us may feel like tossing together.
Stay tuned ladies and gents!!!

Re: Phoenix Downhill, race organizing
Not this weekend, I'm heading over to New Mexico for a race then to Cali Next weekend for DC's Race. There's a full moon race in three weeks on the 28th I believe is the date. If you wanna post up in the Southwest Forum I'm sure you can set up a session. Guys down here are always down to skate.

Re: Phoenix Downhill, race organizing
Hey man this downhill skate park seems like a killer idea! Only problem I see with this is that most mountain property is pretty freakin expensive! Unless you were thinking of doing it up north by like Pinnacle? I skate up there sometimes and there was a ton of construction but because of this nasty recession we're in its almost completely slowed to a standstill with empty roads winding up the mountains. Property would be relatively easy to grab! Not exactly sure how much money would be needed for the skate park however this would be the best time to do it before the real estate market gets back on its feet and prices rise again.
On another note have you noticed all the construction going on in roads around the valley? Well thanks to Mr Obama theres all this stimulus money floating around letting our Congressman and Senators spend it on whatever they want in the name of creating jobs. I'm sure if you proved downhill skateboarding had a following in Arizona and wrote the local legislature/Senators/Congressman asking for funds you would be heard! Those are my recomendations to try to make this sick idea come to life! Good work so far bro.
