My Board Is Hurting My Ears

My board has a rattling sound when I ride it. I checked my bolts and everthing is tight. I checked all the nuts on my wheels,baseplate,kingpin, but i don't know where it's coming from!! It's pretty fvkn irritating! Plz help me. I have a drop through....do all drop thrus do that? Idk what the **** the problem is. Tell me any possibilities.

I found the problem it was my bearings! Are Speedy Lunatics bearings supposed to rattle and have no shield on 1 side? Cuz if not that's ****ed up of LongboardSkater.com to send me those.

make sure your wheels are tight. speed rings on both sides and a spacer in the middle and crank that #### down!

how do the bearings rattle, and a lot of bearings only come with one seal/shield. like reds for instance. are your wheels cinched down tight enough?

Yea, I got steel spacers and I don't like having any play in my wheels so I crank them down pretty snug.

I took them out tried them again but no change still hear rattling.
When I switched to my old bearings the rattling stopped. I don't know why they rattled, but I'm know they were the problem. Shitty Dealz......

I'm guessing the noise is coming from your bearings.

Part of the shield could be bent and that is rubbing against the balls. Often if you overtighten the nut on the axel it could bend the shield. Also your bearing shield could bend if your board bangs on a curb or something hard.

I have always taken off my shields for as long as I can remember. It makes your wheels spin fast and loud. When I get new bearings I get an exacto knife and pull those suckers off and throw them right in the thrash.I preffer the sound your wheels make when your cruising on concrete. It also makes your slides sound louder. A revert is not as fun if it does not make a nice shred sound. It also lets people know your coming and going. When I'm at the skatepark the little kids get out of the way when they hear me coming.

I think it was in January's Transworld where they asked all the pro's their set up and the majority said they ride shieldless.

I would try to pop off the rest of the shields and see how that works for you. You can also just skate with an IPOD. Skating is always more fun jamming to music.

Wouldn't taking off the shields make the bearing way dirtier and faster? And with all that dirt wouldn't it affect it's performance....then decreases its life

As long as you dont go off- roading in dirt and mud your bearings should be fine. An occasional visual inspection and wheel spin check will tell you if you have gunk in them or not. A shot of WD-40 takes car of that.

marco, do you ride no shields at all or just no inner shield?

I remove both shields. I do everything in this video except putting the shields back on. I just throw them away.

how do your bearings not get filled with crap in like 2 minutes of riding?

I read that Transworld issue, and the was like 1-2 out out 30 saying they were riding shiledless IIRC, hardly the "majority". Using your bearings sheildless would make them full of crap pretty fast unless you skate a very clean skatepark at all times.

"rattling" often comes from the washer on your bushing, you can check the KP nut all day long, but the bottom bushing compresses and creates slop with your body weight on it. If you are still having noise issues, tighten up the KP nut and check again. If that's where the problem is.. get different bottom bushings

Sounds like bearing failure waiting to happen. And that ain't fun...
