    Default Board copying.

Since i get censored and silenced in flashchat, i thought i would make a thread DISCUSSING what peoples opinions are on this whole "companies copying other companies boards"

first of all, there's not many ways to shape a piece of wood that hasn't been already made. do you honestly expect every single board made to be completely unique and different?

i love how all popsicle decks are all identical from the eye, but when you ride it.. you get a different feel. this is the same thing when it comes to "longer" skateboards. isn't girl skateboards copying element skateboards? isn't the ESM copying the FSM?

and the answer is NO. you can make adjustments in the little things.. 'cave. width, graphic, length.. but still have the same shape and look.

so i feel bad for companies feeling this hate, you know who they are..

    start the debate.

Kebbek and Rayne copied each other to get each other innovating in terms of board creation. Imo, the market is so flooded with companies now that there is not as much innovation but lots of imitation.

What's the famous line about pornography? Something like, "I can't define it, but I know it when I see it."

It's not that hard to tell the cases of mimicry (I'm sure we're all thinking the same thing) from the cases of convergent evolution (ESM/FSM etc.)

edit: lol. this thread is mod bait.

pintail shape is universal when it comes to longboards..

times change, people need to start realizing symmetrical drop-through are the new.

Just like how the double kick is pretty much standard for park skating

But there are an infinite number of unique pintail shape/material/concave/flex/well/dimension combinations.

i agree bro, thats pretty much is exactly how i feel about the whole thing, shape is irrelevant, its the individual specs that come into play on how a board rides, so basically 2 boards with the same shape can have completely different feels.

I don't see what the big deal is, and Rayne pulling a patent on their Killswitch design/idea is absolute horse sh*t IMO. If another company wants to use the w/concave/drop mix in their own way to achieve something they think people would like, then let them.

If I didn't know better, I'd say Rayne is starting to look like a big USA corporation bent on putting everyone else out of business. This is longboarding. We like progression, not bigots who can't accept that people like their ideas and want to build upon them to make something possibly even better (oh dear, not competition!).

I wonder what would happen to companies like Rayne and Landyachtz if someone burned Daddies Board Shop down...

As far as I'm aware loaded released some drawings of the shape for the graphic contest or whatever they did and then BC "introduced" the design.

skateboard marketing is all about the company logo on the bottom of your board.

Innovation of shapes is hard now days since, like you said, there's only so many ways you can cut a piece of wood. But, there are innovations in the concave, composition, and build techniques of the boards. Such as Rayne's Pleasure Dome cave versus a normal 'W' concave. Then there is the layering of different types of wood and composites such as carbon and fiberglass. Yes everyone uses these materials, but its where its used, how much is used and so on. Also, lets not forget about the graphic. We all know that the graphic DEFINETLY affects your speed and skill. For example, flames=fast, flames with skulls and blood=very fast, flowers and kittens=slow. Basic knowledge. So shapes=not much innovation, construction=innovation.

and what, loaded is the only company aloud to have a twin tip double drop with flips?
as far as im concerned BC did that also, but shortened the length, has different cave and shaped noses and graphic and materials used in the board.
