    Default starting club at school

So I've decided to start a longboarding club at school. There are atleast 30 kids that ride at my school and i figure it'd be alot of fun to get together after school once a week and ride. We need to have a teacher to proctor it and it needs to be signed off on by one of our principles. I was wondering how i should present this to get it off the ground. Tomorrow i plan to bring in a typed document with room for kids to sign saying they will join and that they recognize the risk to injury associated with skating. I dont think I can say anything about how we ride public roads and i would need to suggest a spot for us to ride. We have lots or private drives and whatnot on campus that are empty towards the end of the day that I have skated on late night runs and i was thinking of suggesting we use those. I could use any suggestions you guys may have.

    Thanks

Well.. I'd prolly present it like this "This club, blah blah blah, is a group of teenage skateboarders that are sick of the stereotypical 'vandal skater' image; we are looking for a more rootsy way to express our skateboarding talents. We are not condoning the vandalism of any public property, nor are we suggesting there is no risk involved. We will not hold the school liable for any injuries that occur directly or indirectly related to this club. The club members with get together *X* day of the week and we will brainstorm legal places to skate." That way you kinda cover all the bases that the school will bring up. Of course... you don't have to ONLY ride those "legal" places you brainstorm... it just sounds good on paper! That's my 2cents!

why even have a club why not just figure out who the kids are and get together once a week on your own and that way u dont have posers and what not.Better question what tdo u think are the advantages to having it be a club.

In his defense... I think it would be kinda cool to have a club. You're going to have "posers" no matter what or where you go. It's pointless to even worry about "them". When you make a club... you could put up ads and stuff around campus, set up skate events and style competitions and what not, and maybe even spread the stoke out to kids at the school who had never even known that type of skating existed. It's always nice to do something "official" every once and awhile, ya know, feel like you're making a contribution to the "greater good" of skateboarding.... and there's nothing BAD about spreading around a good thing, seen?

No i now what your saying and maybe having a club might change the image for the better of the sport and get some new people involved but maybe you can just have a skate crew of just close friends and keep on trying to make it official. But i wanted to know why you wanted a club mostly.

The way I see it, make sure you are showing your principal that you are adressing their safety concerns.
Make wearing a helmet and padding a mandatory requirement for club members when they are skating on allowed premises.
You school could get in HUGE trouble if a kid gets hurt and his parents decides to sue the school. You have got to present your project in a way that shows that you are responsible.
Maybe enlist the help of a lawyer parent to draft the proposal and give it credibility... I'm just rapping, you do the research and good luck, m8!
