close one
So im about to hit a decent hill, with an intersection in the middle of it.
I want to make it better so i start on the top of somebodys drive way at the top of the hill. Coming down im getting decent speed, 25 or 30, and i get about 10 feet away from the intersection. A car pulls out right in front of me and into the right lane (which im in). I think about getting in the left but i was gaining on him too much and would have hit him. I started getting major wobbles. I thought about bailing, but was too scared. So i kept in the lane, i rode in the 2 foot gap beetween the car and the curb all the way down the hill and around a right hand turn trying not to lose my balance from hitting rocks on the side of the road from construction. I got all the way down, he never saw me, dumbass, no shirt or helmet either. Scary

you can tell longboarding is catching on because more people are dying from it? i dont know about that one... maybe more stupid people are longboarding. judging by most of the posts on this forum, that is certainly the case.

i meant proportionally. for example if there are 100 longboarders at any given time, 5 years ago there was 5 stupid longboarders out of that 100, now there are 15 stupid longboarders out of that 100.

next time I hope you fall.

Sure, more stupid people are longboarding because more people are longboarding. Might be the same percentage of stupid people now as before, but more now because the total number of longboarders is going up.
Lots of rookies starting out bombing hills before they know how to stop, riding straight into busy intersections, etc.
It's not like trying an ollie at 5 mph and falling on your a$$ .......

My personal theory is as follows: The sum total intelligence of the universe is a constant, the population is increasing...
I'd say more people are longboarding now than a year ago... atleast in my area... (hell, I'm one of them.. ) ...but even over the summer, the numbers have increased...

You guys seem to think i didnt have this controled
i had people wait at the intersection watching for cars, because i was going too fast to stop or slide.
The guy in the car had to yeild to me, he was at a stop sign, i cant control the fact that some idiot is gonna pull out right in front of me.
next time there will be a helmet. what i was trying to get at, is stupid drivers, who dont give people on boards any respect

I think we are the ones who should respect them. They have the thousand pounds of metal underthem while we have just a longboard.

so true... doubly so in ottawa...
...but I find that when you are crossing a street, holding 40 some odd inches of wood and metal, ready to dent some hoods, they are more likely to stop at the crosswalk....

Yup, newer longboarders are stupider longboarders (generally). I'm new- and stupid as crud. Bombing through an intersection? Yes, often, without shirts or helmets. Recently, I just got to the stage where I realized this will catch up to me. I'm going to start riding safer...but I just look sooo stupid in my helmet!
My related story: Some really awesome high school guys blew through a stop sign and turned right in front of me. I almost grabbed on to his jeep but I was already going fast enough. I was nearly ready to grab on to the back, climb in, and a headbutt him extra hard for almost making me squirt a brown one in my pants. But, instead, I just rode in his blind spot yelling, "Gotta remember to stop big man!" He turns around and sees me for the first time and his eyes go all big . I just waved, and he gunned it.
Oh man, I remember all the people I almost killed when I first got my drivers license.

...gonna look worse drooling in the corner, in the hospital, 'cause of a head injury...
...when you're done riding and want to look cool again, you take the helmet off... thats all there is to it..
(that being said, I'm not wearing a helmet on the skate to class today, but if it involved any big hills, i'd have it on... )
