Re: Looking for old guys who can relate, +35
And in case ya'll are wondering why the Fish is so attractive to me at this very second, I'm dreaming of skating (too cold and snowy) and wishing I could snowboard (too cold, gotta work), wrapping up the April edition of Wireless World for GlobalSpec.
http://www.globalspec.com/Newsletter...&isPastIssue=1
For those of you who require even more stimulating tittilation, there's a recent blog on dating at www.adventurouswoman.net
I need a little juice to go with my neck strain, computer drain and aching fingers. Oh yeah, looking up the GlobalSpec stuff also produces a brain drain of what little cells I have left. As usual, I'll fix the brain with a fat glass of red wine as soon as it's a seemly hour for cocktails. Is it past noon yet?

Bwaaa Haaa Haaaa - nice Jules
Chem trails!
It's always noon somewhere and red wine is always acceptable regardless the time of day.

You're funny Jules!
One of my old neighbors in Fairfax, Ca. was roommates at one time with Divine.
That must have been interesting!

So, you picked up on that eh? How about project HAARP? Then there's my favorite subject, RFID, of which you will see more in upcoming newsletters. Once in a while I try to kind of nudge the populace with a little hint type thing. Maybe they'll notice something out of the ordinary. Who knows...maybe they will instead bury their brains in a McFat burger with Fried dead cow eyeballs and a Fat Shake. I suppose that's a simpler solution.
And Cat, I have friends in Fairfax even today. Ever met any of the bike shop guys, such as Gravy and Barry London? While I worked at A Bicycle Odyssey, I met Gary Fisher, Joe Breeze, Steve Potts, Gravy and that Grateful Dead guy, what's his name, oh yeah, Bob Weir. My screaming mountain bike pals. You can imagine the mischief we got into Ah, those were the days, dodging rangers at night, poaching trails by day, drinking lots and lots of beers...oh yeah. Dela Marin. You ever ride it?

Re: Looking for old guys who can relate, +35
I grew up with a missile/electronics/defence contractor engineer father who built interesting stuff in the basement Jules. Mom was just a spy. Enlisted at seventeen to get the hell away and took the longest electronics course you could which at the time was 304x4 - Ground Radio. Was a sad sack in the service but had a knack for RF. Would really like a do-over but better be careful what I wish for on that one though every time I've checked in, the age requirement has been just behind me. Went on to do communications and spooky EW, EMC and TEMPEST work. Couple that with the rest of the family background and I wouldn't be surprised if one of the FBI files that went missing in the White House during the 90's turned out to be mine.
RFID is just a step along a long path. As an aside, the hallmark of tyranny is always record keeping - guess that's why my filing is always in shambles.
Oddly enough, movies like "Enemy of the State" get many of the concerns right but don't emphasize the obvious and voluntarily embraced concerns of credit cards, cell phones and biometrics.
At this point in time, guess I'm a little tired of worrying about how it will all shake out because it will regardless so the best bet seems to be keeping at the board sports.

So glad to meet a kindred soul. I am indeed the spawn of the military industrial complex, with a father who served five tours (can you say PTSD?) and an ex who is a Colonel in the Special Forces, currently volunteering in Afghanistan (can you say crazy?).
RFID injected by a needle is nanotechnology, right? Bypass the immune system and go straight to the brain. Control with EMF, add genetically engineered foods, place subject in front of a video game and kapoweee! You have a Stepford Person.
I guess I see stuff other people just sort of miss. When I was 19 I wanted to do research at my college on how the various chemicals that occurred in products like Kraft American Cheese and Tide detergent combined with formaldehyde in shampoos and violent television affected human behavior (since they were the same chemicals I thought there might be a link). The school said I had to inject rats but I wanted human subjects. What do rats have to do with anything! I had this flash that all wasn't right in the world and it nearly killed me so I quit college. After three years of homelessness and hitchhiking around the country, I finally was able to sit down and read a book for a change.
There's more but I won't bore you with the details. Suffice it to say that now a days I keep my eyes open, my nose clean and my dreams ... well, I still see stuff. But I don't talk too much about it. Same stuff you see.

Wine for breakfast, now that's the way to start the day! I've always wondered though, what happens when you breathe on people at 9am and they notice you had a fresh beverage for breakfast?

Re: Looking for old guys who can relate, +35
okay, delurking here and now.
been hanging around trying to psych myself back up to get a board.
now that there's a couple paved bike trails in the area i really have no excuse. i put it off before because my town is seriously hostile toward skateboarding on public streets.
i'll be doing some searching of the forums to figure out my set-up (flatland cruising for a 215#'er).
i'm 38 (39 next month) and skated street from 83-92, then moved to an area w/o much of a scene, got into other stuff, and well.... .
just wanted to say hi.
thanks for being here.

Thanks for de-lurking, always good to have another ex-skater get back into it. I did the same thing, skated a lot for a handful of years, gave it up for a couple of decades to be a grown up then got a longboard & cruised the bike paths passively for a few years, then got into slalom racing a few years ago... I totally suck at it, but I've never loved skateboarding more!
Get yourself a board, anything that appeals to you, and go criuise & carve your heart out!
I feel more like I do now than I did when I first got here.

cool. will do. been shopping today. dang, bamboo is sexy.
i decided to get back to boards after watching all my 'contemporaries' complicate things too much. i ride a single speed cruiser on the bikepath, while other guys my age puff along with about $5k worth of mountain bike that will never see dirt. hopefully, the lazy smile i will be wearing while carving will be an inspiration.

But stretching is the best, if you haven't injured yourself already.
I'm going outside today in snowshoes to take photos of a proposed cell tower site in my back forty (!!!). Those bastards!!! We'll get them. We've hired an attorney to represent the residents and that cell tower is not to be, not here, not now. We will prevail, injured back or not.
Peace and all that!

Re: Looking for old guys who can relate, +35
Hello everyone,
As some of you may already know I am writing/editing a self-published book, the working title is "Lives on Board".
I would like to invite you to submit a story. I'm looking for great memories from your skateboarding life, or how skateboarding has impacted or changed your life. Another topic could be how you balance skateboarding with family, work, school and other obligations.
You could also write about why you started skating, why you continue to, or maybe even why you quit. Even a skate adventure, fiction or non-fiction are both welcomed. Perhaps there is someone who has influenced your skateboarding, or your life.
Through your stories I am trying to tell the "everyman/woman" skateboarding life experience. There will be some "notables" from the skateboarding world included in the book, mainly people who I have come to know in my 30+ years of skating.
If you have high resolution images (300 dpi) I would love to include them in the book.
The deadline for submissions is February 5th, 2009. I apologize for the late notice, as I just now became aware of this forum on SF, I have posted in other forums.
You can email your story/images to jack@theskateboardersjournal.com.
Please drop me an email if you have any questions.
All the best,
Jack Smith

2210 - welcome back, I was gone for 25 years!
39 is young the way I see it. Also I don't know about the
bike paths, too narrow unless they are really mellow.
I prefer a nice wide smooth 2 lane road, so you can really carve
rail to rail.
