Default Original on the Apex 40 price.

Hey Silverfish, went on facebook to ask original why their new deck was so pricey. Thought you guys might be interested in their reply..
http://www.facebook.com/OriginalSkat...t=feed_comment Proof for those who are wondering.

The question (for anyone who lost track over the last 30 or so replies) was "Why so expensive for the Apex 40". The answer is, because it isn't expensive compared to what you are paying Abec 11, Sector 9, Otang or whatever niche, totally core, wheel company you are buying from. If you don't like math, or logic, stop reading now, it really isn't worth your while, assuming you are up for either, continue.

We used the costs you pay for a set of wheels to estimate how much we could spend on creating the best deck possible. If you are riding (freeriding) a lot, and you are any good, you will be going through at least one set of wheels per month. Probably more like one set of wheels per week (if you are really good).

That means you are buying four sets of race forms, or four sets of flashbacks (or four sets of whatever) per month. That is $160.00 per month in wheels (at the highest level). The Apex 40 costs $219.00

Which is apples to oranges, until you start to compare how many wheels you buy per deck you break. We figured our wood decks (which are pressed longer with more expensive wood and fewer decks per press cycle) were a reasonable place to estimate from.

Your average Original Freeride will last you about four to five sets of wheels (thats about $160.00 in wheels for a $120 deck).

    So!
If you put the cost of your wheels, over top of the deck $160/120 you get a ratio. You can use that ratio to compare to any other ratio, and you already have the first half of the next one.

The Apex 40 costs $219.00, plug that into the rear half of that equation. Now we do some cross multiplication (algebra 1 yay!) to find out how many sets of wheels the Apex 40 has to last through to be WORTH the money you spend on it.

You will end with $290 / $219 (assuming your wood deck lasts as long as ours does). So. Your Apex 40 has to last through $290 worth of wheels before it is worth buying over a wood deck. That is 7 sets of Abec 11 flashbacks at $40 (assuming you can find them for that) or 5.8 sets of otangs at $50.

But which ever you buy, it doesn't matter, under heavy use by the best freestylers we can find (yes those we have, regardless of what you think of our freeride abilities) the Apex 40 is running 10 or 15 sets of wheels to a deck. Ie. by the time you kill it, you will have killed 10 sets of wheels and payed between $400 and $750 to your favorite wheel brand.

Does that make the Apex 40 cheaper? No.
It makes it a better, smarter, buy that is a larger initial investment. Assuming you are in the sport for the long haul of course.

Intermediate or beginner riders will not see as big a value spike since they don't use up as many resources when riding, but the better you are, the more sense it makes to buy a better board. Which the Apex is. Ride one, and let us what you think.

If Earthwing followed Original's model, their decks would be worth a couple thousand dollars

So, they are admitting their board is more expensive than other comparable boards, but instead of saying they are better than the other boards, they try to justify it by comparing the price of their board with how much you spend on wheels. They are admittedly trying to drive the avg market price of long boards up.

I commented on one of originals videos when the truck is on the apex 40, i think i said something like "nice to know that a deck such as this costs twice as much as a better built deck such as the earthwing supermodel(or bellyracer i cant remember)." I got flamed by prettty much everyone(including original) and i was just trying to explain that their boards are way over priced....

Does this mean the deck will last a month if you are a really good freerider?

Haha! Baloney! My buddy's freeride lasted him 2 weeks and he didn't even burn through the first 1mm of wheel. Snapped one of the necks from a shuv-it. Just a shuv-it, nothing from height, just on flatland.

Im really starting to understand why people hate them.
They're videos are awesome, I honestly think that they're making thoughts videos to get 13 year old suckers to go "that's awesome, I need an original so I can do that"
No offense to anyone who's 13,

seriously do your research, eat your veggies, don't buy original!

It's so stupid... and yet it's marketing genius. Kids will eat this stuff up; all of the sudden a completely overpriced board is turned into a percieved bargain. Ironically it only costs so much because kids are willing to fork out $220 for an original deck. Supply and demand defies reason again...

Sadly in Australia almost all boards are 200$. So the price is like the exact same as a normal board, and that is why you never buy in Australia.

No point shelling out $500 for an original complete when we have Early, Daddow, Fat Pigeon, Vault, OMNI and Glyde for half the price. All local, all quality.

Cost of wheels is unrelated to cost of decks, thus making argument invalid.

What if I buy a carbon foamcore and ram it into a wall? That's $400 in 5 minutes.

I expect my computer keyboard to last the lifespan of the computer. Should it cost $1000?
