    Default Converse All-Stars

Has anyone ever tried using Converse All-Stars for boarding? I would think that they would be O.K. for longboarding, but how about shortboarding as well? The bottoms look like they have a good grip, but I don't know. Can't anyone convince me?

Chucks are great for longboarding, The super thin insole allows you to feel the board and its movements, there not super durable though, If you use them to ollie or anything of that nature they'l end up like this....

I agree with Rick. My friend has some and they are fine for longboarding. Now he doesn't shortboard but I convinced him to try to ollie just for fun on my living room carpet.

After about 4-5 attempts he looked at his shoe and there was a big hole in the side. Definately not good for shorties.

Which is why Airwalk, Vision, and a host of others started making All-Star style sneaks with "ollie-pads" back in the 80's. Lots of different styles of protection at that part of the shoe. It got weird for awhile.

I prefer to longboard in worn shoes. I like to feel the board better and they're just more comfortable. I havent had a pair of chucks in a looong time! i remember them being cheap so maybe i'll have to try a pair sometime.

I got a pair of airwalk reissues for 14 bucks at the airwalk outlet and their hella rad, All leather upper, Vans knock-off waffle sole and cheesy 80's skulls, the best of multiple worlds.

Mmmmmmmmmmissin' my old Airwalk's... Chuck-style high-tops in red and black squiggly lines. Optical illusion.
Had another pair of leather ones that were black and white with spider webs all over them.

I like my Van's Checkboard Slip-Ons. Their really unpaded compared to my I Path-JFKs Slip-Ons. I Path shoes are somewhat dressy skate shoes their really comfy/paded, yet grippy and have good board feel checkem out www.ipath.com

Oh ya!, their Pretty Darn Pricey because they made of really good leather. I got mine on sale $40 (thats still too much for a shoe), but I really like them. If you find some on sale some where their worth the money.

Yay - I had some in dark grey about 14 years ago - they lasted great! Chucks feel good - but as other folks pointed out, they wear out fast if you're doing ollies. I've also got some Converse one stars which are pretty good.

I've been skating in Diesel suede babys......they were really nice about 4 years ago when they were new....I wouldn't do anything risky in them, but as shoes wear out they become more all purpose, and they made their way to my feet when I would push my board, now there's holes in the soles from stopping so much.....I need new shoes now, but I'm too lazy to get new ones. These are comfortable anyway, like a second skin.

umm i still walk around in my 80's checkered vans. they rock. chuck taylors rule officially seeing as they were never supposed to even be a skate shoe.
we wore these shirts, levis and blue vans. that was our uniform, and everyone complied with that.
this is why vans will always be my favourite shoe. they are skateboarding.

Me and my friends were pretty poor in the old shortboarding days, so we used to find pieces of plastic to wedge in the chucks to cover the hole then wrap them in duck tape. We used to pride ourselves with how trashed our shoes looked. Eventually our parents would brake down and buy us the airwalks. (memories*sniff*)
