i was reading my friends transworld today and tey had an article on jay adams. aparntly he is facing a LIFE SENTENCE. the trial is early next year. this ruined my day

He got 77 Months. Already served time for the assult and drug charges, Feds screwed him over for some form of Tax evasion or something to that effect, plus some other BS. This is jusf from what I 've read on the internet, not sure how true it is. I'm not saying I feel bad for him, you f_uck up you gotta pay. It just sucks that he was just cleaning up his life, got married and had a kid, and he got popped and put away for previous stuff he did.

sucks, but big al's got himself a point here. if jay wasn't one of the godfathers of skateboarding, in general and especially of the disciplines we tend to practice, most of us would probably say: "good riddance, lock his 455 up!"

i am not sad that he is getting locked up, i am sad that his life worked out the way it did, even though he probably deserves to get locked up. there's a big difference.

truely a gifted dude but couldn't shake his roots, its hard unlearning the rules taught when growing up in a poor neighbourhood with a bad upringing. Happens all the time and its a waste of life every time as they usually crash and burn hard.

Jay was picked up and charged for Tax evasion that occured when he was in jail for the drug charge. I've heard the evasion was connected to what he made of the Dogtown Z-boy and/or Lords Of Dogtown flick. It likely didn't even occure to Jay that he had to pay tax on that. Not realising you have to pay tax on those earnings and hiding those earnings are two different things. What Wesley Snipes did was tax evasion, what Jay did was likely lacked intent to defraud.

But, as I'm told from a couple sources, the evasion charge was just leverage to attempt to co-opt Jay to set up some dealers. People get killed for that. People's families get killed for that. Jay likely made a phone call alerting the targets out of his own self preservation and need to protect his family. The result was 77 months for conspiracy.
