Default Spring Break Maryhill Trip, Info?

Ok so a friend and I would like to take a trip to Maryhill for a few days during our spring break. One thing I would like to know is it open? Do you have to sneak in and all that? Or can you drive and skate and no one cares? More info please.

You can ride the road as much as you want... but no use of the access road... you have to hike up the hill...

yeah, as long as you park at the bottom and hike it, you should be fine. Respect it, ie no litter, camping, vandalism, etc. and nobody cares that you are there.

    Nope... Hiking ONLY.

Thats fine with me. Not like I'm going to start from the top anyways. Work my way up. Going there for probably 5 days. 3 days of skating. We might camp or stay in a hotel, not sure yet. When I get a date, ill see if anyone wants to come and give some points and just skate.

yeah, check out some of the Maryhill threads on NWLB.com. there is alot of info about camping and hotels and other stuff.

Maryhill is a historical road (first paved road in Washington), and is closed year around to vehicular traffic. no motorized vehichles are allowed except for special events (there is a vintage car hillclimb there every year and car companies have used it for comercials as well.). check out the Maryhill Museum for some more info.

Just park in the parking lot, DONT CAMP THERE, dont play super loud music, dont litter, close the gate after you go through it, etc...... basically just common courtesy. oh, and HAVE FUN!!!! im not sure what im doing that weekend, but i'll see if i can make it!

Sam Hill. This is who you have to thank for Mary.

No reason not to, the grade stays the same the entire road, you're up to max speed in about 100 yards, which isn't even the length of the last straight-away. As long as you can foot brake, you might as well just go all the way to the top and enjoy the 4-5 min. trip down... Also, there is free camping along the river, so no need for the hotels.

you can carve/airbrake the entire run and top out at 30. if you do decide to camp, check the forcast. being out in the middle of nowhere, the temp likes to drop like none other.

Sounds awesome! Definetly going to have to take a trip there with my skate buddies after I get my license! I had heard about it (seen pictures etc...) but had no idea it was closed to traffic from cars!

So its a pretty decent ride all the way down? Do you have to be a pretty advanced dh rider or could a skilled cruiser with the right dh setup bomb it pretty easily...?

a beginning cruiser could bomb it, it only gets hairy in a downhill wind like we had last weekend (45-55mph wind). Like I said before, as long as you know how to footbrake, you'll be fine. There's no real bad pavement to worry about, and no cars, so no fears... nice long straight at the end to slow down on. However, you get 6 people going into a corner at once and it becomes quite fun...

Anyone have a maryhill pictures that aren't real close up, say a panoramic or a wider shoot so I can see the actual terrain. Thanks.

Think I read its a good 3+ mile ride but only a 1+ mile hike, guessing you hike straight up (dont follow curves of the road)...

Sounds like it will be an awesome trip, so what time of the season is best (weather and wind wise)... Summer is when the winds get fast and downhill correct? That sounds a little sketchy... Cant wait to bring my demonseed out there! Might bring some cruisers just for fun as well!!!

Ughhh a few more months till I get that license!!!

its just under 2 miles actual skating, around 1 1/2 mile hike. yes, summer is when the winds pick up and also the best time of year for weather. bring your sunscreen. this is eastern washington, not Seattle weather. 110 in the summer months.
