25 mile ride
I want to get prepared for about a 25 mile ride, from the top of the 605 freeway to the beach. What would you guys say i do in prepreation for this?
I mean board wise, and physically.

Re: 25 mile ride
Work up to it by going further every day.
Wear comfortable shoes on the big runs. (unlike me, I wore brand new shoes on a 10mile run and got a huge blister)
Stretch. Work on the flexibility of your legs. Hamstring stretches, for example.
Ride with a heavier backpack. When you do the big one you will have to think about taking some water.

Re: 25 mile ride
Thanks man.
Im hoping i can find someone to train with me..and do the 25miles with me.
It would make it alot more fun.
Im thinking if i train everyday, for a few hours a day, i could be ready in a month.
Anyone else have 25mile experience??

Re: 25 mile ride
Pumping skills will help for long distances. We did a couple 20 milers on rail trails last summer. Will definitely be doing more this summer. Plan on needing some water for a run that long. We invested a few bucks in hydration backpacks after toting our water in bottles a few times.

Re: 25 mile ride
I've been doing 6-8 miles a day for the last week on my 34"...pushing both ways is a huge thing, so is pumping and proper wheel choice. I'm on 66mm red Zigs which are very cush though not as fast as the white Hotspots that I used to use. If I could use any board I wanted I would probably chose a Gravity MiniCarve with RII150's or something similar and wheel around 70mm. Shoes are a huge thing for foot comfort, I used to longboard in the same shoes I pool/park skated in, DC Manteca's, I get foorcramps in about 10 minutes with these when I'm doing a lot of pushing or pumping. I tried a bunch of things before settling on an old set of Rowley XLT's and a new footbed for arch support.

Re: 25 mile ride
I think im gonna try to do it on the Kracked Skulls M1 46".
Length: 46''
Width: 9.7''
Wheelbase:38.5''
With trucks it weighs: 6lbs, 8oz
Trucks: Randal RII 180mm truck
Wheels: ABEC11 70mm Flashbacks 78a duro
Bearings: ABEC5 (but im going to upgrade to ceramic)
It has a medium concave, its also dropped truck deck, and its pretty damn low.
Does that sound like a good setup?

Re: 25 mile ride
I just ordered my Kracked Skulls M1 just minutes ago but anyways I was wondering if my (old, Busted) longboard had a mileage meter what it would say.

Dropped decks are perfect for going long distance.
Just my preference, ( I know that everybody has different preferences when it comes to wheels) but Id have something larger, say 80-85mm wheels.
If you train on 70mm and then swich to 85s you will notice how much further and faster youll be going. Makes a big difference when the wheels roll out further. Plus they will smooth out any rough sections of the road.

Re: 25 mile ride
CLIP YOUR TOE NAILS!!!!
About 2 weeks ago my two buddies and I did a ~12 mile ride. This is all flatland so no hills. It would of been 16 miles but my toenail started bleeding from being pushed against the front of my shoe for so long. Also, try not to stop for too long. You feel fine and energetic as you're doing it but it's when you stop and relax that you feel how tired you are.

You don't say how much downhill you'll have.
I did about 15 miles a few weeks ago, mostly all downhill. Having a comfortable pair of shoes and a deck that feels good underfoot is a must. In my case too much concave made things pretty uncomfortable towards the end.
