So stoked ! First downhill board
Just ordered my first "real" downhill board. Just wanted to get some thoughts on what I ordered.
Landyachtz Drop Speed
Bear Grizzly 852's (flipped hanger)
Abec 11 Big Zig 77A's
Landyachtz AB7 bearings and hardware
Now I can stop catching speed wobbles and dying on hills that my cruisers / carver just can't handle.
Why must we stay where we don't belong?

I really hope this isn't a case of "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all". I'm really curious if I made a good decision here.

Great board you will be impressed. Big zigs are great, after those wear out you shoul get flywheels. Those are the best dh wheels imo.

Good 8mm was the way to go... and 52 degree baseplate so 57 stock and 47 degrees flipped, right?
Yeah I'd give front stock and back flipped a try, honestly I would have gone with the 40 degree baseplates but this will still work fine and be a HUGE improvement over any othe cruiser or carver...
Second the fly's... a soft duro (75a-78a) would be real nice, still a bit of grip but much more drift ability then the pink bigzigs, which will stick like glue BTW.

I have never ridden one but have heard the drop speed is not the largest board, are you a big guy?

They are the 8 mm axles. (I didn't want to get the 10s and limit myself on components later on) And I'm about 6 foot, 185 lbs. (plus I'm a goofball mongo pusher if that matters)

Re: So stoked ! First downhill board
Well you should be fine... I believe the drop speed is the one that I have heard is a tad short on leg room but it still looks like a sexy deck... And I am 5'10"s and both of the boards I have ridden (avenger and demonseed) have had to much room for my tuck so I am sure your tuck can adjust to fit the board perfectly...
Before I got the demonseed I was considering the drop wedge as my first DH board, similar to the speed but with the wedged nose so I could run crails (cant flip hanger) and still have a bit more turn up front...
But you can basically do the same thing by leaving only the back flipped.

Re: So stoked ! First downhill board
Yeah, I wanted the Drop wedge but Ryan at Landyachtz said that they are rebuilding the mold for that board and that it could be a couple months untill they have them again. I really wanted something to ride before the evil winter shows up and poops on everything so I decided to go with the Drop Speed instead. I just figured that if I wanted to carve something or mess around that I still have my sweet Bustin Complex.

Re: So stoked ! First downhill board
Just make that front truck stock (not flipped) and you will basically have a drop wedge... just with a bit more wedge up front...
The differential of the truck angles is supposed to help a bit and also you can run slightly harder back bushings because the back has more leverage then the front when its angle is lower...
57 and 47 degrees would work pretty nice I think...

Right on dude, its good to see another Drop Speed rider/owner. I have one myself, and i'm surprised alot more people dont have em. I'm perfectly content with mine, this is the only downhill speedboard that i'll ever need, if anything would ever happen to mine, i would have to scoop another one up immediately, its essential to my quiver. I chose this over an evo, i dont know, for some reason i just cant get down with dropped down boards like the evo and DHR.

That makes me feel good because I looked into an Evo, a DH and a Eastside Longboards drop deck. I wasn't real crazy with having a board that sat that low.
If you don't mind my asking, how big of a guy are you and what is your setup like on yours?

I'm about 200lbs, i'm running Randal DH baseplates with Randal RII 180mm hangers, orange independent bushings (back truck) and yellow randal bushings (front truck), 75mm 77a white 3DM Avilas, and Bones Swiss Labyrinth bearings. To me, its perfect, the avilas really make the whole downhill experience alot more satisfying for me, they give me tons of confidence, due to them gripping like beasts!

Well the 77a bigzigs you got will be almost as grippy so you should be set!
Yellow randals up front! Thats gotta be TURNY... Sick setup for technical cources, it sounds like...
Only thing that worries me is the drop speed's wheelbase is a bit shorter then most boards... Other then that it looks tight...

Re: So stoked ! First downhill board
The width is the same as an evo, and its only a mere 2 inches shorter than an evo too, its not noticable at all. I've always been a fan of soft ass bushings, even despite the fact that i'm about 200lbs, i'm just used to it i guess. With the avilas, lower center of gravity, and softer bushings, this thing sure rips around turns, but it still stable at high speeds. Ahh, i'm pretty much in love with it, if i wasnt soo obsessed with carving, i'd be on the drop speed all the time, but when it comes time to scare the sh*t outta myself and bomb big ass hills, i bust out the weapon of choice.
