The sage, Longboard Buddha once said, "A tree spends 100% of its lifetime in a static environment and only after its reincarnation as a deck is it allowed to move at fast speeds...
when allowed, the wood will give thankless service if
allowed to flow."
Well here it goes, I guess I'm the first to enter the All Season Shredder Contest, or atleast post-crash. I hope I am bold and not foolish by not waiting till the last possible second. Make sure to check the FLICKR page for anything else I need to add.
Why I'm an ASS..... Video Slideshow: http://www.google.com/videoplay\?doc...14259440755871
Video is available on YouTube and Google Video at: Google, YouTube and if you're wondering yes it was made on a mac
Just in case you cant read the text at the end fast enough here it is.
Quote:
No matter what time of the year it is I'm always boarding. I used to be a snowboarder, who would wakeboard in the summer because there was no snow. Slowly wakeboarding grew on me along with longboarding and finally wakesurfing. Now I'm a boarder that is happy as long as I'm riding a board no matter what is under it: snow? water? asphalt?
There's no tellin where you will find me on any given day during the year. I could be making a fresh powder turn, slashing a wave, or cruizing on my dancer. Maybe I'm hiking a backcountry kicker, bombing down a road, or popping off the wake. The only answer is that while you may not know where to find me....you'll know that you'll find me on a board.
Snowboarding was kind of like a gateway drug for me.... one day my dad took me and my best friend at the time up to the mountains to let us learn how to snowboard. That was over 10 years ago and I had no idea that it would inevitably lead me to other things such as longboarding, wakeboarding, and wakesurfing. I wish I had some video footage but I don't have anything recent, so that slideshow will have to work. If I get any sweet pictures of me riding between now and the end of the contest I'll upload them to my Flickr account. Thanks, if you want to know anything else hit me up in flash chat, email me at bluewoodboarder@yahoo.com, or my AIM is bluewoodboarder
I look forward to other people steppin up and submitting some entries, but I also understand that some may not want to leave out some of their last minute footage.

Re: All Season Shredder Contestant Thread - Heyburt
Simply an ASS
A simple video for shredding as the seasons change in MN and combing the stoke with nature and man's true best friend. My entry speaks to the soul nature of shredding. The magic in the video occurs about 20 seconds into the video. Enjoy.
My name's Matthew Douglas McCabe, McBabe for short. I live in Michigan, a climate suitable for lame snowboarding, conducive to longboarding, and oppressive of surfing.
Snowboarding was my first love. I started riding the 200 vertical foot slope of Mt. Brighton (an alleged landfill) in high school. I served over-priced, grease-laden food in the cafeteria, and distributed out-dated skis and snowboards in the rental dept. (Team X-Treme) for three years to score $5.15/hour and free tickets. Man-made snow is horrible--for those of you lucky enough to be outside the Midwest.
Longboarding is like my affair turned polygamy. I started longboarding because I thought it would simulate snowboarding; it didn't, but I couldn't stop once I started. I love all the styles of longboarding. I started out using it to commute around campus, then I started dancing, then I started sliding. In this video I have two coleman slides right next to each other. At 1:57 is the first coleman I ever did, and the one directly following is where my coleman is now. It's amazing to see progression in the videos.
I'm trying to get a photo of my surfing territory; because, believe it or not, we can surf on Lake Michigan. I recently started surfing and I am not very good at it yet... but the therapy of the water is so nice. In Michigan, the prime surfing season is October-January. We surf while it's snowing outside.
I may not be the absolute best snowboarder/longboarder/surfer in the world; however, I love to do them all and I hope my video reminds you of yourself in some way. Maybe you too have road tripped with six friends in one car for 24 hours to find better snow or a better hill or the perfect wave. Maybe you too have found peace in the quiet drive of gravity and mysteries of friction. Maybe you too have climbed thousands of vertical feet on just one small hill to ride it over and over. Maybe you too have found a group of riders to always roll with. Maybe you too can't gnar enough snow, surf, and concrete. I hope my video inspires some great memories and good times in the future.
Sorry to not have more footage. Due to collegiate expenses and demands I didn't get to take any footage specific to this contest (I had some amazing shots in mind)... but this is what I had saved up. Enjoy the video. Gnar Some.

For me, it all started off “surfing” my blemmed boogie board in Cocoa Beach, Florida. My dad realized that it was time for me to move on, so he bought me a skim board. I love my wooden hammerhead skim board. From then on, our annual trips to Florida were changed from a Disneyland oriented trip, to a beach oriented trip. In 2001, I entered in the Zap Pro/Am Cocoa Beach Skim Contest and took 2nd place with my wood board. Everybody knew I needed a better board; so would be wake surfing world champion Drew Daniello gave me his board that he had just won!
I continued entering in contests, winning the 1st annual Chapter 11 Sports Skimfest; and taking 3rd the preceding year. I realized however, that only skimming on vacation wouldn’t cut it. I started skimboarding on my lake, and even spent a summer skimboarding behind my boat. It wasn’t enough and I continued skimboarding just for fun. I needed by boarding fix though, so I looked to skateboarding.
I had dabbled with skateboarding during my skimboarding prime, originally starting off with my brother’s play it again sports cheapo skateboard. After the first day of fooling around in my driveway I was hooked. I started skating park at The Sandbox in North Carolina, and continued to skate at Airborne Skate Park, Modern Skate Park, and even spent my entire summer of 8th grade at Vans Skate Park. However, once I entered high school it all changed. I had no more time to skate; I was always busy with my schoolwork, soccer, and wrestling. I hung up my skateboard.
Towards the end of my sophomore year, I rediscovered my love for skateboarding, but in a different form….LONGBOARDING! My first board was a $60 Krown Pintail, which I loved! I started building my own boards, from slalom to a 7 ft dancer. Longboarding was amazing. I was making plenty of money running my own landscaping business, so the quiver began to grow and grow. I regularly practice all the disciplines of longboarding, but my love is with dancing. I my dancing video have been viewed by close to 10,000 people, and I have been featured in the Loaded Newsletter. I was even one of the favorites to win the second loaded challenge. Longboarding is by far my favorite sport, but in Michigan, we only have nice weather 3 months a year!
I discovered snowboarding. I tried the normal form, tricks and all; but found it rather boring. I began to notice those few snowboarders that hauled down the hill, and who wore ski boots and would touch the ground in each turn. I wanted to do it. I got my first alpine snowboard and fell in love. Here in Michigan, our “mountains” are about 300 ft, but I love snowboarding so much, I’ve learn to deal.
Even though I’ve done many sports, and done very well in them (varsity wrestler, state champion gymnast), my love truly is with all things boarding…
And here is a quick vid with mostly the same pics in the second half, some of my gear etc.. that a friend put together for me on her mac.
Hi everyone, my name is Andrew. I'm 21, and live in Rhode Island.
My fascination with board sports began when I was quite young; my uncle windsurfed, and I always wanted to be able to. I began windsurfing as soon as I was able to uphaul the sail, probably around 8 years ago. I continued solely windsurfing for several years. Eventually I tired of the lack of locations available for windsurfing, and the piles of gear required. I decided to try surfing, as that my home town has a few relatively good breaks. I eventually wanted even more, and began to longboard skate about three years ago. Last winter, some friends and I went to the local ski hill, where I tried snowboarding. Thanks to my time on other boards, after a couple hours and many falls, I was able to make it down the hill, and stop at the bottom without falling. Halfway through last winter, I switched to a hardboot carving setup which I have ridden exclusively since.
I surf on my university's team, and I also am a team rider for a local shaper (M Surfboards). I placed third in a surfing competition in the open longboard division last year. Unfortunately I missed a few competitions this year, due to an injury and the time required for my schoolwork as an electrical and mechanical engineering double major. URI Surf Club | Rhody Surf Classic
I still windsurf as often as is convenient, surf several times a week throughout the whole year, and skate whenever the roads are dry.
I build longboard skateboards, and have for over a year. I use a vaccum press setup. A few members of silverfish have ridden them or own them. I've helped friends who couldn't afford a commercial setup to get into the sport of longboarding by building at cost and finding used gear. I've taught at least five people how to surf, not including the people I've taught through the surf club. Tomorrow (wed 16) I'll be helping a friend with snowboarding.
Boards I've built & process, etc. here : Andrew Krystinik's Photos - skate stuff | Facebook
I am truly an all-season-shredder not only because I participate in the three pre-determined sports, but also because I surf throughout the year. Most of the surfing pictures are from Christmas eve day, or a few days ago, early January. The snowboarding pictures are from Attitash MTN, in New Hampshire. My girlfriend took them, quite patiently I might add. However, we were using an old camera and she took many pictures of snow and trees rather than a tight carve because the camera didn't take the picture quickly enough. The skate pictures are from around my home town and somewhat hastily taken! I've always been the person who makes a little sacrifice to sit out and take pictures, thus had none of myself.
See Andrew Krystinik's Photos - Wheelbrator | Facebook Andrew Krystinik's Photos - Oktuberfest | Facebook
for some of the photos I've taken.
The feel of gliding over the water, snow, or ground is deeply entrenched in me, more so than I could express in words. I hope you all can see some of it from the pictures in the slideshow. Thanks for your time!
It was definitely a tough choice, you all had great videos and would all be an awesome ASS in my opinion...
Whoever wins, congratulations!

Hey, I think you need to cheer up a bit. I think your video was pretty awesome, but it seemed a little longboarding dominate. Basically I think your dancing footage was awesome! Your signature is a bit depressing. Look on the bright side the contest isn't over yet! I like your video more than the leader so far...until i take the lead that is....

haha, thanks for the plug fatbastard. I got out to test that new shape today, 5' long! I was amazed it rode as well as it did, probably replaced my retro twin fish & shortboard (5'10'' and 6'2'') for anything under chest high.
Mt Okemo has some NICE conditions now, for anyone interested in the northeast!
Thanks to those who have voted, especially those who voted for me!
Heres some fresh video from today on the 5' board, first testing session! commentary from the peanut gallery included!
Closeouts everywhere, but the swell was small & that beach was the only offshore wind location.
Too bad the current leader (xxguatarist) is the only one in the contest that actually surfs!
Why the discrimination against wakesurfing? I could say the same that I'm the only one who actually wakeboards. One again I don't think it's about surfing, snowboarding, and longboarding specifically, its just any and every way you can ride a board. I surf an endless wave, xxxguitarist surfs ones that come and go. Just like its not a about a specific discipline, i don't think this should be about small distinctions between wakesurfing/surfing.
I can't wait to learn how to actually but in the mean time i'll be surfing an endless wave behind my boat, or riding the snow, or rollin on asphalt.

XXGuitarist - PLEASE let me try surfing with you sometime this summer. (I just gave you my vote). I LOVE goint to the RI shore in the summertime. I truly hope we can hook up sometime.
I tried surfing once last year in NC - they board I borrowed really sucked, so I could barely get up. Extremly choppy conditions too.
I boogie board in Westerly, Charlestown and Naragannessette as much as possible.
Let me know if you'd be interested in trying to help this old wave junkie out, and help fufill a life long dream of riding a wave and standing...

Absolutely.
I've got a bic 7'6'' you can borrow any time I'm free to surf. I'll give you some pointers, too. I'd pick westerly (fenway-just the far side of the breechway) for beginners, naragansett town works OK for beginners too, but it closes out quick so I get bored!
Let me know when you're headed by, if I'm not busy with internship stuff, we'll head out.
