upon reading the you know your a longboarder when thread and further contemplation many things have hit my brain, this may be a random thread but i feel like longboarding is on if no the most genuine sport out there, sure the 'fish is getting kinda rundown with dervish questions and fashion skaters but the peeople who are really truly involved in the scene, who live and breathe longboarding seem like the most dedicated people to any sport ive ever encountered the attraction is huge between us and our boards and im glad that i can be a part of this awesome community of longboarding
Heh, on that note, I spotted a guy with a longboard at the park while I was on my landy UA (pushing my kid around on his BOB). I was happy to see another longboarder, and when I rolled up to him, I asked him what he was riding, and the usual stuff. his reply, " I dunno what this is, I just got it!" I told him, "yeah, I can still see the price tag on it!"
As long as people are getting out there and skating, I don't have a problem with it. I've already gone through it all with fixed-gear bikes. at least one can build up a nice quiver for a lot less than a nice fixed-gear bike.
The dervish is a good all around board. I'm not really digging randalls at the moment, so I'll just ride around on my vanguard with Indy's. Actually, the Vanguard is one of my least used boards right now. My EW's get all the love.
Uh............ are you saying that would actually work? Do you live in a little dream world? With King Friday the XIII and everyone else from the magical land of make believe???

i agree but at least he was riding it... and not on the internet posting 50000 questions about how to do what when if he only took a little bit of time he could figure them out himself and get to be a better rider in the proccess i have no problem with people who dont know the difference between a bushing and a kingpin or even a truck and a deck as long as there dedicated and willing to get better... good on them im not the kind of person that hates on people becuase they dont know what there riding or what kind of board it is i have a problem with people who want others to learn for them get on your stick learn from experience share the stoke... repeat untill death
edit; i have no problem with the dervish either... the board that is... looks really fun i might pick one up eventually

yeah it looks like a very fun board but people are just going out and buying it and not even knowing what it is
they just know the brand name
that seems like what happened with sector 9
Well it's kind of true, I don't think you can set long boarding above every other sport. I guarantee there are people as committed to every other sport in equal comparison to long boarders. Long boarding is just most of what long boarders see, so the vision is skewed a bit in that direction.

My wife used to ask me, Your already in your 30's, why must you continue to do this?
I told her it would be difficult to explain and scary to understand.
I skate therefore I am...........................and she's cool with it.
i think
longboarding = longboarding addiction
is more of my case

if you wanna talk dedication to sports talk about European soccer hooligans
The thing with longboarding and skating in general is, you can just step outside and roll. No rules no guidelines. You wanna go bomb a hill go ####### bomb that hill. You want to cross step, crosstep away. I'll even go as far as saying kickflipping. There just something beautiful about the freedom it entices
wow that was fruity, I'm gunna go watch porn and football to restore my testosterone levels

Call me odd, but I don't see the correlation. Sure, people dig it (and that's cool), but you see the same level of "dedication" among lots of other groups of like-minded people.

the way i see it, you don't need to be willing to take the same kind of risks when you dedicate your time to playing soccer or whatever. That said, there are tons of "extreme" sports where people are even more dedicated than longboarding. pouring 40 grand into xc bikes, skiing avalanche chutes, etc.

I disagree. the people that dont know anything about their set up actually bug me. now you may call taht hippocritical because I know what kind of car I drive but I dont know anything about whats under the hood- then again, I built my longboard, not my car.
I think longboard building is a huge part of the sport, and I really think it gives me a greater connection with what Im doing and I know pretty much exactly what happened to allow me to ride.
the people who buy a complete sector nine or even arbor or landyatchz bug me because to many of them it is a fad or an extension of skateboarding or a "hey look at me I have a longboard" but I hope that everyone else at school looks at them, and looks at me, and says that cam bell kid knows his ####.
and that was pretty arrogant. and the part about building was fruity. porn and football it is.
