Re: Loaded LDP Deck? (Long Distance Pumping)
I hate it when SF goes down and threads end up buried. So here is a bump. Final one, I promise.

Re: Loaded LDP Deck? (Long Distance Pumping)
My Vanguard's sorta been my "loaner" board since my Dervish showed up.
You just may have breathed new life into her, C.
The two pics at the top are really nice.
Do these guys have a template or give a suggested new wheelbase at all?
Looks alot like a Roe Mermaid in bamboo w/out the wait.
Nice post, btw.

so how would one go along getting one of these made? i was planning to get a blem but is there someone that charges for the service of doing it..? i dont have any carpentry things and i most certainly have no experience doing it either...

Re: Loaded LDP Deck? (Long Distance Pumping)
I am sure that Pavedwave could trace us a template. But I am not sure how he could get it on the computer.
I think Zack may have gotten the idea that I did these. But these weren't mine. I am capable of doing it if needed since I have been doing carpentry and shaping skimboards for a long time. I have built a few decks with some nice shapes as well.
The wheelbase would probably go from the 42 down to a 38 with the tip just ending in the middle of the stock front drill location.
I really want to to this with an uncut dervish board though. I think it would be awesome. I emailed the guys at Loaded about it, but I haven't heard back. I think Pavedwave may do the same. Maybe he will get a response a little faster since he had approached the subject with them in the past.
Loaded's are the most fun decks out there IMHO. I can't imagine how cool a Loaded LDP would be.

Re: Loaded LDP Deck? (Long Distance Pumping)
Not to be an ass at all, but just to clarify:
vanguard = 38/42" w/ respective 33.5/37" wb.
dervish = 41" w/ 33" wb.
the Roe LDP Mermaid I'd mentioned before specs out at 39" w/ wb of 28.5-29.5...
Point I'm getting at is simply that I'd worry that starting w/ the already shorter platform
of the Dervish, you could possibly be shooting yourself in the foot iby removing too
much material and winding up w/ a low-gear pumper than a higher-gear LDP...
...sorry, does that make sense at all?
Get James on the phone, Lol.
Best.

right,
so I just took a tape to both and it looks like we could easily get a 29"+ wb out
of a 42" vanguard, but the dervish would be limited (safely, imho) to
somewhere around 26.5", maybe 27".
great, now I'm excited.

I don't think you are following me here. I want an uncut dervish blank, like a rectangle. Before the deck has been shaped. You could get at least a 36" wb out of that platform. Not a modified board, a completely new design. I agree on your assessment of lengths for the current decks. The wb for an ldp modified dervish would be too short. the vg flex 1would be the best modified board.
I just want to start from scratch on the dervish plank. That way Loaded could actually produce one.
The vg has too much side cut to maintain the torsion that ldp would generate. It would be too laterally flexy. The dervish doesn't have those side cuts thus making it the stiff deck that it is with a fair bit of bounce.

Re: Loaded LDP Deck? (Long Distance Pumping)
i would kill to get my hands on one like this! if loaded gets smart and starts making these ( and by just using theyre Dervish panels to make them would not be hard) its going to be awesome!

Ah, I get what you're saying now.
I'd be curious to hear how this pans out for ya.
I'm still considering chopping a vanguard, tho'...

I sent a follow up email to the guys at Loaded and copied Pavedwave on it. Hopefully this thread will get their interest peaked (both in stoke and commercial benefit).

Re: Loaded LDP Deck? (Long Distance Pumping)
cool post, camel! i saw that guy's reloaded board on the german forum about half a year after my tinkering around with the "unloaded"-- i caught grief from a few people for griptaping the whole thing, but i still like all the grip. it allegedly affects flex, but I didn't really detect that. haven't seen your mail yet but I did buy a few oak blems and a little back and forth with Don over a year ago, it takes a while for their board dev--test--marketing cycle to go through all the motions though, i think.
that yellow one's a keeper because one friend shaped it and another good friend professionally painted it, but there should be one more VG in the garage pre-cut and not yet drilled or gripped, i'll post that up later if someone wants it-- it was a flex2 so cutting it down made it a pretty stiff flex1. the mods I really wanted beyond the chop-down was more width, and less camber. if loaded ever jumped on this, i'm sure they'd do well.

as for the Roe wait -- with the CNC in place, Gareth's last 10 boards made it out between 2--4 weeks, so things have improved for real. i'm even going to finally own a "real" Mermaid, since I've been riding the proto for two years now

PW,
I, for one, would be VERY interested in that board.
1st dibs to Camel, of course, as it's his thread - but please PM me if it's available.
thanks.

It's all yours brother. I don't need it now that I have the Roe. Looks like Loaded may be interested. We will see. I am not spilling any beans until Loaded tells me I can.

Re: Loaded LDP Deck? (Long Distance Pumping)
I figure this might be the appropriate place to post this....
I can already pump my stock vanguard great, and it has Holeys.
None of the wiggly pumps though, i like the big thrusting power ones, whatever you wanna call em.
Could i improve its pumpiness simply with different trucks?
thanks

I get what you are saying. Paris 180's are the same way. A very stylized pump with lots of "oomph" for lack of a better word. The bennett 6.0's are pretty cool feeling, but I think you may miss what you have. The wiggly pumps really require a foot over the top of the truck. I have used that pump with my Dervish but I can only do it for a minute or two before I get completely out of control. The Roe handles that alot better. I need to mount up the 6.0's on the Dervish just for the fun of it and take it out for a ride. (And take some pictures for those who haven't seen it yet.)
Without rambling, yes, throw some bennett 6.0's on there and you can do a little bit of wiggling. But you will lose some of the other things you like about the current setup.
