im a touristy beach town and just recently i found a small shop that sells flexdex,s9,some other brands cant recall off the top of my head maybe loaded but they sell a good selection of wheels varying from bigzigs, gravity, zigzags s9s, and some other and the one guy longboard commutes so he knows some things about it and stocks whatever its cool.
but the other 50 skate shops are pretty bad all S9 complete and zero anything else unless its shortboard and than its just element BAM... kind of sad that in like 20 shops only one has a decent longboard selection
if i had a dime for everytime i walked into a skate shop and asked for bearing spacers and the guy behind the counter looks at me like i just asked him an SAT math problem..................id have 60 more cents in my pocket
yea dude my skate shop is shortboards they have like 4 Sector 9 boards. And thats it Sector 9, i dont think they will expand at all because they dont really care.
i usually buy my stuff online, or @ a store called Zumiez because they have a guy their that longboards and hooks me up with some LH and rayne
The mating dance of the elusive longboarder is the cross-step into G-turn. So break out the Dancer, show her your big wood, and start making her wet with your mad dancing.

I live about 45 minutes from a boardshop that actually focuses on longboards. They carry shortboards, but they're in the back of the store and all the employees ride longboards. But it is too far away for normal trips and the only other shops within 30 minutes are shortboard shops like Ambush which carries S9 completes and they order like 5 pairs of Randals every 6 months and they only carry S9 wheels.

it seems to me like all the good local shops around end up having to close
one shop which is now closed due to the economy carried ninja throwing starts.
another shop in which the owner is a now a good friend of mine also had to close.
they have completes from Sector9, Original, Arbor, Truster, and an occasional Bustin.
they also have Sector9 wheels and randal, Gullwing, Original, Indy trucks
They have okay prices
Some of the people who work there ride longboards but most don't.
I gave up on our local skate shops long ago...If you are over say, 20 years old, they dont even want to bother with you...And that is fine by me...If you can keep the business going selling a couple pairs of park board wheels a day, along with a couple sets of Bones Reds, more power to you...
most of the local shops are pretty cool. not many of them have longboard stuff but it would be kind of pointless to stock it around here for most of the shops. it seems snowboard shops have a better market for longboards than skate only shops.

Re: How badly does your local shop suck?
MY SHOP IS THE ####!!!! any longboard, wheels, trucks, bushings, bearings you could want...East Coast Skate and Snow - Merrimac NH = the bomb shidigity.
theres a Utility here but they only have regular skateboard stuff and pads...
But they DO sell sector 9 race formulas for 36 dollars because they don't know the actual pricing of those wheels...you forgot that part my friend.

I no longer have a local shop, Mark. We have a bike shop that used to sell short boards but somewhat recently stopped selling skateboards and skateboard accessories. I have to travel a half hour on the highway to get to a good skateshop (Pitcrew...a very legit shop), and it still caters to mainly shortboarders. The closest shop that sells longboard stuff is in Fairfax, VA, and is about 45 minutes to an hour from me. The gas money just isn't worth it...thus I end up ordering basic stuff from you (MHM). Cheers.
Crap, I called one of the local skate shops here in town asking about bearings and the one shop didn't carry them, but they said their other shop might. So I call the other shop and ask, yeah, they have them. Cool. The guy asks if I need anything else? "Eh, nah, not unless you carry Abec 11 wheels." "Those don't exist." "I'm looking at them online." "Nah, they don't exist. That's just a hardness scale.." "Okay, whatever."
So then I go into the shop yesterday to get the bearings, and it appears that the tool that was on the phone is the guy that helped me because he gave me a ration of sh** for not supporting my local shop. I ask him if they carry Grippins (the wheels I wanted). "Naww.. but we have blah blah blah [read: shortboard wheels]. And are the ones you want Soy?!" wtf? I tell him no, that mine aren't soy, and he goes on another diatribe. "Sector 9 just came out with Soy Wheels.. so you can enjoy the environment without hurting it.. blah blah blah I'm a tool." Then at the end he asks why I don't shop there and I say, "'Cause you guys don't stock longboard stuff. *shrug*"
After we left, my buddy that went in with me said, "Wtf, that guy was a total tool to you.." "Yeah, and he has to wonder why people don't shop local?" Lame.
Maybe it's just 'cause I'm female and don't seem to know what I'm talking about, but if I'm looking at a product online, right in front of my face, and ask you about it, it probably exists.. just. y'know.. that's what I'd think.
our local shops are all surf shops that sell boards...and the trailer next to the skate park is owned by one of them... Still, they've S9s, and S9 wheels...but I can't find Khiros locally! (obviously inquires about venoms gets the "wtf" response from the teenager behind the counter)..There are quite a few longboarders that roll around town, but mostly just transpo people who don't even know how to pump.

my local shop is pretty nice actually. black diamond sports has most of the things i would ever need lol. they have like a huge amount of longboards plus wheels and accesories. never had a time where i couldnt find anything in there haha. however its like a 30 minute drive to the store so it isnt exactly "local" but its close enough =p

my local store is pretty sick, they stock tons of brands, rayne, landyachtz, s9, yada yada, the list goes on. At one point they had 3 CF hellcats in the store, smokies and other things. And if the store usually doesnt have something ill tell them about it and sometimes they start stocking it.
modestme and i are talking about the same store
