My local shop sucks so bad that they went out of business last March. Thanks a lot More Skates! Not only that but they never carried any longboard related gear, i guess it wouldn't have been to their benefit business wise since 99% of their customers rode shortboards. I suppose they'll never know if they could sell longboards. Big, fat, FAIL!
Both Daddies and Calskate were OK in 2004 but I bought a lot of stuff online back then because neither of those shops had a lot of the newer brands and equipment.
Cals is still good (plus it has a rad collection of boards going back to the sixties.) and Lab 33 and Eastside carry LB stuff and Daddies inventory is so deep now that I less frequently send away since I can just drive over to one of those shops and get it right now.
My local shop sucks so bad it burnt down 15 minutes before i arrived to buy a new helmet! Also, they only had sector nine boards and wheels... And only shortboarders worked there who were incapable to wrap their heads around the mystical concept of durometers and randal trucks.
The only local skate shops are for shortboards. However, Vancouver (an hour or so drive for me) has the Rayne store, the Landyachtz store (haven't been to either) and another board shop that does alot of clothes, mostly shortboards, but carries sector nines with a few landyachtz and raynes. I just bought my first longboard online from Switchbacklongboards.com which is actually a local shop in Nanaimo (Vancouver Island) and they were amazing.

All of 'em are extremely expensive, but the worst here only sells by-products.In small words, they build their longboards using other companies designs. The first one I bought was Gravity Hyper Carver with the store's logo, with Tracker 150mm trucks and wheels that I didn't discovery what they are yet..Maybe the wheels are theirs at least. And everything is expensive as hell!
I think Gravity can even fight for their rights over the Hyper Carver, but that's their problem.

i hear theres a sweet shop maybe 45 minuets away from me in baltimore, they helped sponsor boarding for boobies, which was mostly a longboard thing. however the one i go to sounds alot like polyfunk's boardshop. all secotor nine stuff with a single glowing dervish. they have a pretty nice selection of wheels, i picked up a set of gumballs there last week, but all the trucks are short board indy's or chargers. its a great shop if your trying to get into longboarding, but it seems they have a minimum and it feels more like a clothing store than a board shop. but w/e they give me stickers so im happy. if your in the area of Nothern Baltimore, check it out, Wavedancer in hunt valley (gotta support the local businesses)
Mine told me to put Wd40 on my bearings lolol. I know more that he does after 2 months of skating. Its more of a clothes shop with a couple of shortboards on the wall.

Oh,mine told me to change my wheels the second day I bought my longboard, told me that the Hyper Carver is good as hell for DH and that Trackers were as precise as Smokies.
All of this = Shop knows nothing about longboarding.

it sucks product wise because all they got are a whole bunch of dregs completes, 2 kahuna completes and some localy made longboards and the only type of trucks they got for sale are friggin gullwing alpines but the people there are cool so thats all the matters for the rest theres always the internet

my local skate shop sucks... they got over 150 shortboards about 3 sector nines, maybe 2 sets of longboarding wheels (s9 also), only countersink hardware about an inch, and TONS of clothes, TONS of shoes, and TONS of stuff to make your local skateboarder/bro look fresshh... i still order my clothes online because i will not support my local skateshop...
customer service SUCKS... i walk in with a longboard... he looks up from his magazine/skate video and says 'waddup'... thats all... theres even a conveniently placed ladder by the decks so the customer can pick out his own deck/shoes from the top of the rack and a counter with tools laid out so you can put your board together that you just bought...
Mine told me that Sector9 started longboarding. Yep, that's right fellas, contrary to popular belief the 1993 opening of Sector9 was the beginning of longboarding.

The shop, which I work at by the way, only carries shortboard griptape which makes gripping our Sector 9s, which our owners brilliantly ordered ungripped, a pain in the ass and terrible looking.

If the rolls are long enough then just put a pinstripe down the board so that they'll look better and your grip will be wide enough.

That's what we do, but the issue too is that the grip isn't long enough either because we have it in sheets, not rolls, so you have to have a seam at some point.
