Default LongboardLarry - The Pusher

LongboardLarry has made The Pusher available for purchase, which I think is pretty cool.

LongboardLarry - The Pusher dropped distance pusher

For those who don't know, The Pusher is the board that Rob Thomson of 14degrees.org is using to ride across China, and his travel is now an official Guinness World Record attempt.

14degrees Off The Beaten Track » highlights

According to Mr. Thomson The Pusher is very comfortable, maneuverable, turns tight, and has some flex to it. Now I'm not really sure how flexy that is, since he's been riding the RollsRolls board for a while, which is quite stiff, so I'd imagine riding any other board would seem to have a nice flex to it for Rob.

Rob's journey has got me excited for longboarding and has inspired me to want to travel some distance via longboard. Not necessarily across China, but really go places using a board, rack up some miles, since I don't really skate to commute but for fun. That'll change soon though.

And now Larry making this board available has got me even more pumped to travel by longboarding. Even though I don't necessarily need this board, I'm excited to own it one day, since I'm currently on the prowl for a new board. I've been eyeing the Vanguard because of its liveliness whatnot. But now this board has caught my attention because of my new interest to commute with a longboard.

Anyone else have any thoughts on the board?
Anyone hear anything else about it?

I skate to commute and for fun, watching bikers blaze right past for years. If it was only a question of getting to work fast and efficiently, I'd bike. But at the moment, cycling seems purely mechanical, with about 1,000 times less the stoke from boarding...so the choice to skate comes pretty obvious to me.

That dropped wooden LBL's been a huge relief for Rob. There are ways to slightly dampen the vibrations with the rollsrolls (soft risers, and rubberized surf-pad on the plank) but wood was definitely a good move. Rolls now makes a wooden version as well, but I think the LBL plank's got better width and length for true distance cruising. The main thing you'll want to consider is how many tight turns you have in your commute, and whether the bigger wheelbase of a cruiser will handle it. (WB is not specced on that link yet...) Turny trucks can make up for a big wheelbase.

I love commuting skating. I've begun skating to school.... Oh by the way, I live in the city and my school is out in the country. It's an hour an half skate to school. Hahaha

Not to mention the skating around the city I can do. It's great if you put your time into it and got some good tunes to jam to so you're not bored, it can be really relaxing. I personally enjoy radio talk podcasts on my commutes. It really feels like a shorter ride that way and you're helping the environment, helping your body, look damn sexy, and feel awesome. Haha

I have Randal 180's and Retro Big Zigs. I love it and everyone I have ever let ride it has had nothing but great things to say about it.

I may start commuting to school, but I'm a sweaty dude so maybe that may not be the best idea. They also have a little policy about boards.
But in any case I'll definitely start commuting to places just for the sake of skating there. So it won't really be a commute exactly, just skating around some distances.

Any advice on what kind of trucks?
Also, I've heard various things about wheel size when it comes to skating distances. I've read that wheels that are too large are not best. I forgot exactly what size "too large" is, but I'd assume 90mm or over. Is there an ideal size of wheel for distance skating?

Hey, sounds good. Now I'm really having some trouble with what my next board will be.
How flexy is it? Is it really a dedicated distance board like the Rollsrolls or is it more versatile? How's it carve? It definitely looks like I can do some boardwalking on it.

personally i run randal 160s on an evo and on my rolls, with softer/looser bushings in front and tighter ones in the back. best trade off I've found for a truck that handles speed and can turn at slower speeds. of course a bennett in front i've tried on just about everything and like 'em. but with some funky shapes like the rollsrolls, the wheels can bite right into the fenders when the truck turns too much....which also depends on wheel size.

you'll hear a lot that 90-97mm are too massive, but it completely depends on the ride. if you go a block or two, then have to stop, and start, and stop again, all the time -- then something 90mm or bigger is going to suck, because you lose momentum at each stop, and have to keep kicking up to speed again. but if your ride is long, not too inclined, and goes for miles on end without intersections, then the momentum you get on big wheels just flows -- plus you plow over everything. the only downside can be traction at high speeds suffers. the "best" all round push size then, might be more in the 77--85mm range. and for a pumping/topmount distance setup, 75--77mm, IMO.

last thing, that Raven's also a killer choice in a distance deck. i've been on my buddy Sheldon's and it's super smooth, and drop through, not to mention badass looking

Is the Raven on the Subsonic website? I can't seem to find it.

Also, does anyone know if there is anything special about the materials used to make the Pusher?
