    @ Joaquin Stick -

Oh, so now S-9 is WalMart? Ha! Now they are the greedy corporation trying to steal your money. "This buy-out is not an American dream come true, it is a giant and destructive machine running rampant."

So I guess to make amends for this dastardly deed done by the 9 Ball, they would need to give away a great portion of their money to all other longboard companies out there just so everything will be fair?

And I'll put ALL CAPS where ever I damn well please, especially when it's speaking to socialistic idealists saddened by the PERCEIVED evil of money.

It's called COMPETITION, something I'm sure you've heard of but of which you are obviously not too fond. Yes, money or capital is needed to start a business and that's how Sector 9 and every other business got started. DUH! Are you now going to argue about how THAT particular pile of money came about? Do you want to trace it back to the begining to make sure it was good, clean money?

And who's not in love with the idea of the guy with the idea for a longboard and starting his own company? Was that not Sector 9 back in the begining? Again, that's the American dream. And I don't feel sorry for you, me, him or anyone else that DOES NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO COMPETE. So what? You want an even playing field go live in North Korea or Cuba. And I know the field of which you speak. Especially when that board is produced in America by Americans, like Sector 9. Do you or any of you even have a clue as to how hard it is to even produce a board in America? Hell, you can hardly find wood! And then to actually make some money so you can pay the rent and have some food, well...that is just too much to ask. I can't imagine anyone actually doing something so evil. You should make a horror movie about that. You could pay for your longboard company with the proceeds off of your movie on the evils of making money. That'll show 'em!

You just made the TOP of the list of CLUELESS IDIOTS.

    • Figures Sector 9 would go and sell out to a company that doesn't have any existing skate products.
    • This means that we will see exponentially more "ignorant Sector 9 kids"; with which I keep bumping into already, one tried to cause a fight with me on the bus the other day because I was riding a LandYachtz Chinook, apparently that's a " flimsy piece of crap ### board".
    • Maybe if we're lucky, we'll start to see Sector 9 stocked in Target, Fred Meyer and Joe's. NOT.
    • All I can say, is I doubt a company like LandYachtz, Loaded, Kebbek, or anyone BUT Sector 9 would of sold themselves off to some secondhand, 90's era surf/clothing company. Tsk Tsk.

A little history on this argument. How the rich went from greedy to pious in the 1500's. The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pro..._of_Capitalism Not saying something other than capitalism would work better, it just explains the two sides to this argument and why we're having it.

Boycott S9? Well this also proves good for those of us who still own old REAL Sectors. If you think about it, in a couple of years, people might be willing to pay good amounts of cash for an original Sector9 board. Maybe... I still think it sucks though... LB's going to go mainstream!

I'm down with the gloves. Much better idea and Reef has played out the sandals, anyway. Getting a little more serious, it's projects like this that an acquisition can make possible, and this enabling power is what has people in the industry excited or grinding their teeth (depending).

I have a sticker that says: "Sector Nine - A skatebording company." Now that Billabong purchased Sector 9, will the Sector 9 name change, by Billabong? Like re-naming the S-9 boards or would they still be labeled Sector 9?

One more question, Someone once told me that Arbor boards were a division of Sector 9, any truth to this?

I don't understand why everyone is crying about big evil corporations. This acquisition is going to be great for the sport of longboarding. I'm really curious about how billabong is going to market it to the masses. Longboarding is going to gain a lot of publicity. Sure many newcomers will buy billabong/sector 9s, but many of them will move on to different boards. Imagine how much incoming traffic the fish is going to get asking about longboarding. This is just going to spread the stoke . Growth of the longboarding segment means growth for other longboard companies. I welcome this with open arms

Im pretty stoked about this, the best part is everybody running the joint in Cali still gets to do what they have been doing best, but now with support from a larger corporation.
Everytime I meet up with a Sector9 team racer, i'm always amazed how well they take care of them. and in the last years they have been listening to Speedboard demands, making great wheels, floating axles (i dunno if i was supposed to keep quiet about that one or not, sorry), and great all around trucks and custom decks! even in the slide world, how many companies can you name that make a slide specific wheel, not too many...These guys really support the underground, theys sponsor riders all over BC aswell as Cali. They sponsor races everywhere and even outlaws!
All of you boys in the Black, Yellow and White leathers i'm so stoked for you guys!!!

Danny, I understand what you mean about the phones ringin off the hook, there just isnt time for everything when your a big company like sector. I have my own point of view of a longboard company and if a corporation came along with a multi-million offer to buy the said company, there is no way in hell he would say no. its like dubs said, THE AMERICAN DREAM.

I also have my own perspective on race organizers, and more help from the big guys in races across the world would be big step forward. Its a really really hard thing to do and I tip my had to any event orgnizer, its something i would never be able to do. And to keep doing it year after year as longboarding grows and more and more longboarders begin racing their speedboards, slalomboards or whatever. it looks like its only getting harder! these guys need as much help as they can get. I truly believe that this is not the end, but only a beginning. Events and Races in longboarding will be more and more sponsored by bigger companies as it is the only growing branch of the skateboard industry, very slowly but it is increasing, everything else is flooded, the shortdeck industry is crashing,(if anyone has noticed). I dont know if it will ever go back to something like X-Games, but events sponsored by redbull and big names with big cash purses all the way down to 16th place, would be amazing!

McBride, DC; do you see a resurgence in gravity sports as it was in 1998- 2001?

Sector 9 was a cool company and I'm glad that they got paid off for all their work. They have always been really cool to me on a personal level, not just as a customer. One time I got a wheel that started chunking really bad so they sent me a whole new set (of better wheels) like 50 stickers, and a Bomb Hills DVD. It was pretty cool and I was really happy with them.

Then another time me and my friends were doing a school project and we decided to do it on longboarding. We couldn't think of anything so I called Sector 9 and the guy (Scott I think) stayed on the phone with me for like a half hour giving me ideas for our project.

You guys can say that they are a greedy company but they were just a bunch great guys that saw a chance to capitalize on all their hard work.

If you've ever been to races you know how much S9 supported those events and with billabong's backing, who knows, more money = more events = bigger events = events like mary not selling out in 7 hours

    Dear Snubbed,
Yes you can use all-caps whenever and wherever you like. I just don’t suggest it. I also wanted to address the idea that I am some kind of “Socialist Idealist”. I’m not sure you got it right Mr. Snubbed. My comments about Big Business are not directed so much towards Sector 9 for selling-out. Good for the guys who benefit from that acquisition. What I’m concerned about is how this will affect the myriad of smaller companies who are now competing with Mr. Big. I guess my question is that if you’re already killin’ it and controlling 90% of the market, then why share those profits with a huge corporation? No matter what the justifications are, and I know their will be many of these posted, it all comes down to moe-nay-nay. Cash. There is money to be made. Now here we go, yes it’s a competition and the strongest will survive (the Romans thought they were the strongest, and the Nazis too. We know how that turned out now don’t we.), but what gets me is that, yes, now everybody has to compete with these Corpo-duche-bags and their truck-loads of cash. What this does is makes it that much more difficult for all the rest of us (the actual majority of longboarders) to showcase our ideas and talents. Are we weak and lame because we do not like to be bullied by big business? Chubbs says in one of his posts that he doesn’t feel bad for those skateboarders who are railroaded by Big Business. I am. I’m not some crazy socialist. I’m just callin’ it as I see it. And it’s quite clear. I am a proud American that is not scared to voice his opinion, even though it may not be popular. All this #### makes me look back at the core skateboarding market and how Big Business came in and changed something that was more performance art, ran by skateboarders, and changed it into what it is today: sports and youth culture image for profit, ran by Nike and friends. Yeah a lot of people profit when this happens, but it’s a trade–you loose something as well. So ask yourselves what longboarding means to you, and what is going to be sacrificed by having Big Business controlling more of what people see and hear from longboarding? We’ll see. I hope I’m wrong, but I see longboarding becoming over-saturated and played out. Hopefully this only happens to Sector 9, but of course only after they sell millions of units to consumers everywhere, and make a butt load of cash. That’s what it’s all about. What about the direction of skateboarding? To hell with it–as long as Chubbs and the boys get their slalom contests and new black leathers. Me, me, me! Survival of the fittest bitches! Sound like this has happened before? It Has!
    Love,
    Nastraphuckindamus

P.S. I don't really even care about this ####, I just ride skateboards. And Snubbed you are now #107 on my list of nonentities. Pow!
