dr...i want to know why if the govt is spending all this money on our behalf to buy stakes in these companies then how come i cant request to hold my own certificates.
i want to hold my stake directly.

LOL! thats not how it works. The government isn't buying these banks because they will file for bankruptcy anyways...They're doing it so these banks WON'T collapse and decimate your 401(k) and college savings. They're infusing them with cash which will help their stocks rebound if they can clear out these toxic assets - which will be awfully complicated and Timmy Geithner hasn't said anything meaningful about this yet. They dont want another lehman on their hands
