I bought it. No skills in the soldering field. That being said, I would like to attempt one sometime just for fun. No those aren't my headphones, I've got Grado SR80s

Re: post your latest purchase
I'm gonna make myself a Cmoy at some point, its not too hard, since the parts only cost about $25 and you can make it on a weekend. Soldering is easy!
How do you like the SR80s?

Ya... I've actually never soldered before. I'm sure it's not tough but I'd rather try it on something a little simpler... that and I won't be able to do it anytime in the next 7 months b/c I'm away at school. Figured it was worth the extra cash to have it for those 7 months.
Love the SR-80s. The only downside I have found is after wearing them for a couple hours, they do get a little uncomfortable. However, the benefits outweigh the drawback immensely.

Soldering properly is tough. I worked in an aircraft electronics company and MAN is it hard to get every joint perfect.
Liquid, no-clean flux, few seconds of heat, bridge between pin and pad with rosin-core 60/40 (or lead-free in the states >_<) solder, add more until joint has the perfect amount of solder (should flow through the board to both pads, but not have any frosty look or cold-joint cracks when cooled).
After that is done to every pin on the board, gotta go back and hand-clean every joint, inspect, and re-work where necessary.
Great job, so tedious! Feels like you accomplish nothing when you've been working all day on a hand-solder kit..

Headphone amplifier. The general idea is to provide higher quality (or well, any headphones really) with the energy they need to function properly. A simple "cmoy" like that can be built at home in a matter of hours, from parts costing less than $30, and is a good, simple, cheap way to power 'phones on portable rigs. The general point of it is not as a volume control, its to give the internal drivers the energy they need to function properly, which greatly boosts audio quality.
R, you should really use something with more output power... Senns and their stupidly high impedance
Rodgon... lol thanks? Love that show
Tinypete: nope, Kohls. Its cheap and not real leather, but it does its job well for now until I can upgrade

Ah. Yeah it would be silly to use an open can for portable use.
Whats your home amp?
