haha, i got the cops called on me when me and some buddies (up in idaho) were having roman candle wars by the creek. crazy burns ALL OVER THE PLACE!

Cotton balls coated in Vaseline is one of my favorite bring-along tinders. Make a few (be sure not to add so much Vaseline so that there are no dry cotton fibers) and put them in a film container. When you wanna lite up a fire just tear one in half and spark it once.

Ah nice, I experimented a little with tinder yesterday and found cotton indeed
was the easiest to ignite. What does the vaseline do? Keeps them heavier and longer burning?

It keeps them from blowing around, lets them burn longer, and helps to add a little bit of water resistance. It also makes your fingers nice and soft

the magnesium make a white flame the burns at 4000 degrees F.

i just spent something like, 30 minutes scraping a pile of magnesium on to my desk and i lit it up with my flint and a huge fireball exploded in my face.

the real hi-o eagle scout trick is making fire out of a sandwich bag or some saran wrap and some water. that one gets the girls into my mummy bag every time.
