I thought the same thing but my D300 and 17-55 just sits in the closet. =P It NEVER comes out. A D700 does high ISO so well that it gives you so much more freedom that you won't mess with the D300 anymore. I'd only consider taking it out in bright sunlight when I know I need the extra reach of the crop sensor.
I take my D300 out sometimes because I like the sound of the shutter..

5 skeins? pfffftt! I use more than that just making bullieghans. What I make aren't your little airy light weight shawl type things. double strand, double crochet backstitch. I've made a number of them bigger than that. They have to fit me which means I can pull it over my head and it'll be well past the end of my feet.
