Yeah...but 35+ in a straight line is one thing. 35+ through hairpins and looping turns is quite different.

How long is the course exactly? It would be interesting to calculate average speed with their qualifying times.

The Silverfish front page article about Day 1 says the course is 2.2 miles long, the Newsflash section on the front page says 2.5.

The course is actually 1.8 miles long.

Last year John Fryer clocked 41.something on luge with a GPS, while Siegrist said he was in the 39 range. This year I hit 42.6 on luge, but didn't ask any of the standup guys what they got.

We had some decent tail winds on the two qualifying days. I heard reports there were gusts up to 60 MPH last monday!

The top speed is about 40 MPH (coming into Cowzers) with the wind affecting the speed by about 10MPH depending on the direction. Usuaully it is a tail wind.

To verify the distance (for those that don't believe my GPS)
from: 45.725596,-120.806136 to: Unknown road @45.716011, -120.798516 - Google Maps

Last year, the Silverfish radar gun recorded 43mph at the entry to Cowser's, from standup guys. We didn't bring it this year, but my highly accurate visual estimation tells me that on the tailwind days, that entry speed was higher.
