I had three sets of bearings for the entire journey, and just rotated between them. I took care of my bearings, and they lasted very well.
I changed my wheels twice, however that's just because I wanted to try something new. I believe that I probably could have made it the whole distance on just one set. Wheels last a long time if you're not sliding on them.
@ Nat: Yeah well you know this already too....http://www.skatefurther.com is what kept me going through the tough times. Such an awesome community of dedicated long distance skaters there! Here's to SkateFURTHER!

For anyone interested, there is an in depth interview here that I did yesterday. It might help clarify some things for people interested in a big journey by longboard:

I might just do that. All my blog posts are very personal already, so it wouldn't take much.

I'd buy it and read it!
I think that's a great idea - IMO the best books are exceptional experiences that most people won't do - it lets you walk in someone else's superior shoes. Awesome.

You also probably have enough footage to pitch a TV series... and that would get this in front of a lot of people!
I don't know if news // current would pay what I really think you could get - you could pitch a National Geographic or Science Channel though on your series - you already have the footage, it's like writing a book and shopping for a publisher.
