A few hours ago I went out the door to have a skate (no, I'm not drunk).
After about 20 minutes of a little flatland-freestyle on my loaded pin I noticed that one wheel was lagging. I had blown out a bearing in the rear. When I tapped my board on the pavement to check the severity, the wheel just popped off.
Then I went back inside to take my #### apart. Upon disassembly I realized that I had busted a cage on a bearing in the front, and it was just one side-load away from blowing out like the other one did.
My hardware is always tight, but thats not enough. You gotta grab your wheels and yank them around to make sure everything is solid before having a serious sesh.
If this that bearing-busting sideload takes place during DH, that's bad-news-charlie.

That's some good advice man. Glad to hear you noticed everything before a major wipeout could take place.
Always better to be safe than sorry, it's not hard to check your nuts and gear before riding your board into the dirt.
I check my wheels daily and this defiantly reinforces it. Glad you are ok.
