    Default Oklahoma Fun Run

Memorial Day weekend (May 28th & 29th, 2005) We will be having our annual Fun Run at the Ouachita Mountains on the Talimena Drive in South Eastern Oklahoma.
As always, everyone is welcome to join. We will all be chipping in and renting a U-Haul, and taking turns driving during the two full days of riding. RV and Camp sites have been reserved at the Queen Qilhelmina Lodge on top of Rich Mountain where they have a restaurant and heated showers.
The Talimena Drive is a 52 mile long Scenic Byway located in a National Forrest, that has very little traffic. Home of the IGSA sanctioned race in 2002, There are also many other (better) paces to ride along the Talimena Drive, and we plan to ride all of them. These are mostly very steep hills with lots of breaking turns. So whatever your riding, a good helmet is required, and leathers are strongly suggested.

In the past three years, this Fun Run has become an annual tradition for the gravity sports community in this area, drawing in riders from many surrounding states. I know its several months away, but time is needed for planning. If you luge, longboard, speedboard, g-bike, buttboard, dirt surf, whatever....and your interested in joining, please e-mail me.
You will need to bring beer, food, and tent.

If you live in Ok, Mo, Ar, Tx, or any state nearby, please join our private mns group and keep in touch with locals and our list of great riding locations. http://groups.msn.com/OklahomaLongboarding

I am also looking for longboarders in the Tulsa area. I havnt found many around here yet, and need someone to to ride with!

Hell yeah theres hills in Oklahoma! It took me about a year of scouting to find them, but when I did, I messed myself. hardly any traffic, and the butter smooth roads never gets sanded or salted during the winter time, so theres NO potholes or other obstacles to worry about.

That is down around the Talamina Drive. Southeastern Oklahoma. Snake run maybe? They used to have a luge event there back in the day from what I hear. Bombsquad has some vids of them skating that area.... 60+mph runs.

some lugers are kind enough to invite a select number of riders on memorial day really dude you have to be extremely skilled cause there is guardrail lining the runs all the way down we actually had a buddy break both his legs last august on a hill thats 3.5 miles long smashing a rail. and a luger lost feeling below her waist a while back look up stacy allen luge on youtube. it is not for everyone check bakedboards.com and go to the media section weve been there the past 3 years and its a blast just very dangerous if you do not know your skill level, the bunny hill there will top 50 mph and a few of our riders have gotten 70 mph on one of the runs. we cant just go and hit these hills whenever the lugers have talked to national park people that patrol the area and when its ok with them is when we can go and we do have signs but we still ride with traffic.

Dustin, There has been plenty of runs down 3.5 where nobody was wearing a gps.You might not be the only one dude. You sound so arrogant. But I will agree with him as far as you really must be high skill level and be comfortable with extremly high speeds for a few miles at a time. We have seen many broken bones out there.

It's funny how this thread got bumped as there is no one in/from Oklahoma (particularly on the Fish) that can even began to fathom how to handle this run. I have been to Mt. Scott and peaked just over 50mph and I'm not sure I was mentally prepared for that. I've been around the area and driven talamina drive and it's gnarly.

This stuff is scary fun. But be warned you had better be damm sure of your skills because once you commit you are commited to the bottom of the run. If you can foot brake over 50 mph great! Slide yeah, maybe a hundred yards if you dont break your legs on a guard rail first. These DH runs make you decide if you're gonna' pick up your balls and skate em' or not.
