    Default Race in NW Missouri

    Hey everyone!

I'm thinking about setting up a race for a local charity sometime this summer. I live in St. Joseph, which is about one hour from Kansas City and 45 minutes from KCI airport. The race will be held in St. Joseph, since that's where the charity is.

    Details:

The race will probably have a $10 entry fee that will go to first prize and gas money for the truck that will tow racers up the hill. Five dollars of the entry fee will go directly to the donation to our chosen charitable organization.

The donated money is going to the Noyes Home, which is a place where children can stay when their parents are going through troubled times.

The hill being raced on is about a minute ride (I'll time it sometime this week and get an exact number).

The reason I'm posting this is because I need to know if anyone is interested in participating! I have a group of five friends who are up for this, but for this to work, I need the support of other boarders. Let me know what you all think, as well as any questions you have!

    Thanks,
    schmete

I'd be down for sure, I live in the kc northland so it's not a bad drive. I don't know too many others, but I'll put the word out.

So, I timed the course. It takes approximately 1:10 to get from start to finish. I'm waiting until I have some guaranteed entrants before I actually go through with talking to the city Parks & Rec as well as the charity organization. I really would like to do this, but I need the help of other riders. Help, as in saying you'll join the race. One person isn't enough.

If it makes a difference, I'm working on getting some prizes lined up. Most likely a set of wheels, possibly a deck, and I'm planning on contacting Concrete Wave to see if the winner can get a CW subscription. PM me with any thoughts or questions.

Also, I've attached an image of the course. The red pin is the start, purple is the end. It's around half a mile long and speeds are between 30 and 35 mph.

Cool Re: Race in NW Missouri

    I have never raced before,
but i know me and about 5-6 other guys who would love to try it out if this works.
We are all advanced and could do it skillwise.
We have all gone 45mph+ before so dont worry.
Hit me up with a date.

How hard is it to make those turns at 30 - 35?

Back before I got married and had to get a real job, I worked as a summer camp councilor in Lebanon, MO. As I headed south of St Louis I couldn't help but notice a lot of BIG hills. Of course that was on I-44, but I fugured there must be some nice hills off the main roads too.

    Sometime in August maybe?

The turns are pretty easy at speed. None of them are hairpins, but it takes a decent amount of lean to get through the turns well. After about 2 runs you start to get a good feel for it, so it's really not bad.

Yeah, August will probably be when it happens. We wanted to hold it sooner, but due to the lack of participants, we had to hold off. Also, since it's so late in the game,we decided to make it an unofficial outlaw race. I'll work on getting a date locked down.

    Okay, here's some details:

St. Joseph is located about 45 minutes from KCI airport; there are signs directing you to St. Joseph from the airport, so it's very easy to find. The hill is a little harder to find, so I'll be meeting everyone at a Days Inn right next to where you exit off the highway to get into St. Joe.

This is no longer going to be an official, city approved race. It will be an outlaw race.

The race date will either be August 15th or 16th, depending on which day is better for those planning to attend. Whichever date will have a better turnout will be the day the race is held. The race will start at 10 AM (if this is a problem, let me know), in order to avoid traffic. That means you might have to skip church (for those of you who go).

The course is a minute long reaching speeds between 25 to 35mph. There are four high speed turns, none of which are hairpins. Leathers are not necessary, but feel free to wear them if you'd like. Helmets are required and kneepads/elbowpads are recommended.

After the race, we'll be having a sliding, carving, freeriding - whatever you want to call it - session at a nearby hill, so bring all your gear!

There will be a $5 entry fee for each rider, which will go to the races first place winner*.

EMAIL ME AT michaelcwestfall[at]gmail[dot]com WITH THE SUBJECT "PARKWAY RACE" IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND. In the email, include which date is best for you (Aug. 15 or 16), along with your name and Silverfish handle and any questions or concerns you have. IT ESSENTIAL THAT YOU EMAIL ME, BECAUSE I WILL BE SENDING UPDATES VIA EMAIL.

*First prize is subject to change, as Ghoti may be helping me get a set of wheels or possibly a deck, in which case, the money will be split and will go to the second and third place riders.
