Hey Ya'll. Shawn from Comet Skateboards and Caliber trucks Co. Are there any longboarders in Taiwan? My family is from Taiwan and I visit frequently, but I never bring a board because I don't know if there is a much of a scene there and if there are any shops in Taipei, Kaoshing, etc. Let me know whats up!

Hi Shawn. There are a few longboarders in Taiwan, but the scene is fairly small right now. I'm from Taichung and I just got back from Taiwan (I currently live in Vancouver). It was very lonely to longboard in Taichung, but there is a longboarding community starting up on Facebook. The problem is that there is a gap between people in the group and silverfish because not much people understand enough English to come up here to read and post (so people in Taiwan should come and reply me to prove me wrong lol.) There's not that much places to downhill in Taiwan, best places located in Kaohsiung and other locations are mostly located at a few good paved mountain roads. So considering the places to skate in Taiwan, the disciplines are some-what limited to flatland and mild downhill riding, like boardwalking/dancing, pumping, long distance pumping/pushing (one of these days, I'll go around all of Taiwan once I have the money >w<) and sliding at night when less cars and scooters are occupying the roads. Yah, so if you want to tackle the upcoming longboard industry(?) in Taiwan, I'd suggest starting with a few "freeride" decks, for some reason people currently prefer light, shorter decks in Taiwan, you don't see a lot of people carrying heavy 8-11 ply dropped decks.

So yah, this is just my observations. Hope this helps.

If you're in Tainan, look me up. Bring a Shred 32 and we'll hit the park. Here are some links to the biggest skateshops in Taiwan. Not much longboard selection. Mostly NHS and Chinese stuff. S9, Loaded, and Original are starting to make inroads as well, so it could take off. The biggest scene is in the Kenting area amongst transient surfers who hang out there on the weekends.

Rad, thanks for the reply all. I really thought this was a dead thread for awhile. I guess the only problem I have is not being able to read Chinese haha. My speaking is just fine though. I'll definitely check out what Taiwan currently has. I have a feeling Taiwan might be a good "push culture" place. Especially in urban Taipei and what not.

It's nice at night when the sun goes down and there aren't many scooters around. Traffic is dead by midnight. The cops don't hassle you either.

So where is the best to place in longboard in taiwan? Im going for a month or two and never been.
I like to just pump relatively flatland, it seems that the river area is really good for that.
