cruising in Singapore/Hongkong?
Hi everyone, I need some help please..
Im looking for cruisers but cant seem to find any in Singapore. (I know Spitfire sells only longboards) and Im heading to HK for a short trip soon. Was wondering if anyone knows of any shops selling good cruisers/longboards in HK?
Or should I just order from ebay or something? any good brands/models to recommend? I am just looking to cruise around no real tricks or sliding etc for now. just something really smooth to ride and easy to bring around.
THANKS MUCH IN ADVANCE!!!

Re: cruising in Singapore/Hongkong?
I live in Macao...a short ferry ride away from HK. I looked around and only found one long board in all of HK...an Alien Workshop Dinosaur Jr. Not really what I was looking for. A friend went back to Canada and brought a board back for me...god bless her...and I have commuted to work and back every day this since!
I ordered it from Pipeline Surf..super guys, super service. They have a huge selection and good prices. They had to ship it across Canada to where my friend was flying. I opted for the Landyachtz Spud with Monster Hawgz 80a. Needed something smooth for the rough terrain!
Pipeline will ship anywhere, so if you have the bucks, they'll get you the board. There's also a guy in manila who sells Landyachtz boards. Google longboards manila and he will pop up!
Hope that helps

So I found out I'm definitely going to Hong Kong in the beginning of January. I'll be there for a year so if anyone wants to get together to skate let me know.

from what i know, i THINK they are pretty similar to ours in singapore (think most of our laws are very similar due to colonial ruling) but i think in terms of trying to skate on their sidewalks would be a nightmare since the streets are 50% narrower and 200% more crowded. unless u go to HK island and far out away from central kowloon etc.. i've seen quite alot of dope spots in skate videos though im not so sure about longboarding ones. been dreaming of bombing the stanley hill one day hahah oh did i even answer ur question?

My question is am I gonna get a ticket or arrested for longboarding/skateboarding in Hong Kong and Kowloon?
Thanks for the help!

which was what i meant by theirs being similar to our laws. cause over here, even though strictly speaking, skating is illegal in almost everywhere, u still find people skating anyway..just had to know when to run from cops.
i saw alot of no skateboarding signs while in HK recently. but im pretty sure as long as you dont be a public nuisance or destroy properties openly and lookout for cops you should be fine. generally speaking, you cant get arrested for skateboarding. but you can get if it leads to related charges like getting caught for running away, providing false ID information, being found with illegal weapons etc..
safest way, just visit a skatepark (eg meifoo) and check in with a local skater when ure there to find out the specifics. good way to start a conversation and maybe they can show you all their secret spots too. haha

Re: cruising in Singapore/Hongkong?
I know this is an old thread but hope to revive it... anybody out there have some good spots, neighborhoods, hills to introduce in the HK area. Will be there for two weeks in mid-August.

Re: cruising in Singapore/Hongkong?
i skated all over hong kong and kowloon for four years, but not on a longboard. never had a problem being stopped or run off. the pavement in the city is way uneven, though, its like as soon as they got the roads fixed, they start digging up little patches here and there to lay more pipes and cables.
now i am on a longboard i can't wait to go back to hk for a visit! my home turf currently is beijing, its pretty flat in the city proper.
if you are into downhill i suggest grabbing a bus or minibus from hk island to Shek O beach, get off halfway (once you are up at the top) and ride. once you are up there it must be a sweet run down to the beaches, and there is less traffic up there. but watch out for the minibus drivers!
another run i want to check out is on lantau island. take the ferry from in front of the IFC to Mui Wo and head for the coast road on the east side of the island in the direction of Cheung Sha. it's a good hike from Mui Wo ferry to the top of the hill (done it on a bike, the other direction) then there is some sweet low-traffic asphalt to carve up. past the few little villages you reach near the coast, it goes up again, but from up there you could cruise all the way to Cheung Sha beach. same story coming back, in several places you'll have to hike it quite a ways up, but after that...
also skating around kowloon in the early hours is a blast. less traffic, spooky orange light, and up closer to the mountains you'll find some great terrain. yeah, shredding the metropolis at night!
if you get out there, do let us know how it is, and whatever other spots you discover!
yeah, i want to explore more, i hope to be back there for the month of october
