Taiwan longboarding?

sup guys, i just joint this forum about a week ago. i am from Vancouver Canada and i currently working and going to school in Taiwan right now. anyone from Taiwan??

Are there spots to skate? Seems to me like the streets are too dirty, wet, cracked, and crowded to skate.

I was born in Taiwan, moved to the US in 82
I went back to visit Taiwan in '06, last time I went back was '84 !!

I tried to look up skate websites in Taiwan a long time ago,
maybe you can try that...

I did see a skatepark in Taipei, but it was at night so nobody was skating....

do you see other longboarders there?
how's the skate scene?
what city are you in?

I live in Taipei, move to Canada when i was 15.
ya the skate parks here are weak, we got half pipe but it's pretty old and beat up.
as far as i know, only me and my 2 other friend do longboard here...
i skimboard too tho, just longboarding in winter.

well that one guy is going to school there but i was also wondering how the scene is? any good parkades? are they longboardable? same question for hills?

I'm going there for a year for a exchange and would like to know if i'm going to see my board rot there :P

i'm from norcal too, went back for summer internship this past summer...

as far as skaters and longboarders... i saw none. i was tempted to bring my longboard but i made the right choice not to... too crowded and not a lot of places that i remember were suitable...

unless anyone know some good spots in taipei?!

there's a skateshop in ximen that i get stuff from. ti's called caba's. lots of people skate near my place out by the entrance at the traditional medicine hospital.

i dont think longboarding's that big back at home. i went back during winter with my board and the guys at caba's were pretty interested with what i had.

i dont know about parking garages, back in ximen it's probably a bad idea to go at any time of the day because it's so crowded. your best bet would be at the skatepark next to the soccer stadium on zhongshan north road. but then again that might not be what you're looking for.

As hills are concerned, the roads on YanMingShan looked good when I was there four years ago (Didn't skate then though). I would definitely check them out. Afaik they are even reduced traffic

I'm Taiwanese, but I was born in the US. I didn't skate the last time I went back to visit relatives from both sides of the family in 2005, so I didn't really keep an eye out for anything skate-related. Frankly, I'm of no use to this thread, but I sure would like to know more about skating in Taiwan..hope somebody knows something.

i was around the south over winter break. The highways are nice and windy along the coast, pavement looked good when i drove. it was mostly empty, but still it's probably not such a good idea to go on them. you never know if a crazy trucker's gonna speed by and nail ya.

about longboard gear, im sure you can get bearings and what not cuz skateboarding is pretty big in taiwan. i saw a guy with a longboard once, so im sure there are people into that. i'll keep an eye out for other stuff when i get back.

in other news...
i just finished my finals and am heading back to tw on monday. gonna bring my dervish along. so i'll be in the taipei area if any of you guys are interested in meeting up, let me know.

In Taipei longboarding would be sick for commuting last time i went was two years ago. Especially with the MRT im sure im gonna have a blast this summer when i go.

well i went to middleschool and highschool here so i've been basically everywhere in taipei already.

i went to the 101 with a couple of friends last summer. we went in the most touristy non-tourist getup ever, all of us went and bought I <3 taiwan shirts and went on a tour of the 101.

I have been back to Taiwan for a few weeks now... I would say there are some pretty good skatable (for longboard) sidewalks and streets in Taipei area (some of which are better than Canada!)
and I have been using my longboard to commute. as for using MRT, I have not been questioned or kicked out by anyone yet...
and if you know your area well, small alleyways are great routes for longboard commuters, there' s little threat from fast traffics

I thought I was going to be roadkill if I try to skate in Taiwan... turns out to be alright : )

Been here (Koahsiung) since Nov, only only been commuting so far but the hills are looking pretty tasty. anyone know anywhere to get gear from? could really do with some decent trucks
