Re: The Visayas Islands Longboarding Trilogy
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is the “Visayan Odyssey: An Epic Longboard Trilogy”?
The Visayan Odyssey: An Epic Longboard Trilogy or the Visayan Trilogy is a nine day long boarding expedition that will cover three provinces in the Visayas. It is an adventure of a lifetime in moving platforms as we explore Bacolod, Dumaguete and Cebu in the search for the perfect concrete wave.
When will it happen?
The event will be on March 27 to April 6, 2009.
What are the sites to be visited?
As we travel through these three provinces, we will try to stop by these places:
Don Salvador Benedicto
Mambukal Mountain Resort
Bacolod City
Canlaon Mountain Range
Mabinay
San Jose, Negros Oriental
Twin lake Balinsasayaw
Valencia
Dumaguete City
Barili
Car Car
Alta Vista Hill
Cebu City
These are only the planned stops and highlights. Other places may be added or replaced depending on various factors, such as, permits from private resorts and LGU’s, weather, and general safety concerns for our riders. But we promise you that we will endeavor to give you the best of these places. Regular updates will be sent to those who have registered.
What are the activities?
The expedition will consist of free style and downhill skateboarding, video and photography shootings, and nightly film showings. Of course, it’s also nine days of fun, adventure, friendship, commune with nature, and interactions with the local riders and the community.
Who is organizing this event?
This event is organized by Free Energy Cooperative.
Free Energy is an association of individuals and organizations dedicated to stopping the causes of global warming through the active production and distribution of quality products, events and services that can make the world a better place. Individuals who want to make a change make of the base of our membership.
This is in cooperation with Walk on Water Community Projects and our various friends from Bacolod, Cebu and Dumaguete who are into long boarding, skating and mountaineering.
This event is also supported by Loaded Board Philippines, Driftwood Local Enterprise, A Frame Clothing, Tuason Surf, and Tenzing Adventure Shop.
What are the goals of this event?
The goal of this expedition is not only to create awareness on the issue of global warming and promote long boarding as a viable alternative mode for land transport, but also to highlight the beauty of various tourist destinations that the expedition will pass through. Videos will be produced after this event as promotions to achieve the causes aforementioned.
Is this an organized tour?
No. We are not a tour operator. We are only creating a venue where people with the same interest, the long boarders and the outdoors, can interact and share experiences as we promote our sports and our advocacies.
As such, only those who have an open mind and the heart for adventure are encouraged to join this event.
Who are expected to attend?
We are expecting around 30 long boarders from all over the country, plus of course the members of Free Energy and the local riders in the area that we will be visiting.
I am not a long boarder yet, am I welcome to attend?
Of course! We also hope to make this an opportunity to introduce the sport to those who would like to try it. Boards maybe made available for you to try, but of course, this is depending on the number of boards available vis-a vis the number of those without boards.
How much is the registration fee?
As this is our first event of this kind, we have made the registration fee as affordable (and reasonable!) as we can. The registration fee for those who will join the entire expedition is P3,000.00
What is included in the registration fee?
Three (3) meals and land transportation for the entire nine days are covered in the registration fee. An expedition shirt will also be provided. Water will be provided for the entire duration of the expedition.
What is excluded in the registration fee?
Interisland transportation (2 trips, maximum of 400 for both) is excluded in the registration fee. Snacks, beers and other drinks during night parties are also excluded.
What are the other benefits I could get if I join this event?
Registered participants can avail themselves of various producst at great discount during the expedition. Products included are Loaded boards, trucks and wheels, safety gears as well as products from Driftwood, A Frame and Tuason Surf.
How about food?
Most of our food will be prepared by our in house chef Dave, a la camping style. Some will be in restaurants and bars where we will have the film showing and night socials.
Please remember to bring your personal utensils. If you have special dietary concerns, please contact us for the possible arrangements.
How about transportation?
We will be hiring a bus or a coaster or a jeepney depending on the number of participants confirmed. One bus will be used for the Bacolod and Dumaguete leg, and a different bus will be used for the Cebu leg.
How about accommodation?
Friends have offered their houses along our major stops. But we will be spending most of our time in the road, or in the outdoors. Bring a hammock if you have any. Don’t expect a 5 star accommodation. Check out our schedule for the list of accommodation in each area.
What if I can only attend a portion of the expedition?
Those who can only attend a portion of the expedition are still welcome to join. For those who will attend only one leg will have to pay P1800, inclusive of free tracks or a set of wheels ONLY. If you want to share in our food, you must add an additional P50 per meal. Transportation to our meeting point shall be to your expense.
I am a minor, can I join?
Yes, provided you have your parent’s consent. This must be indicated in the registration form and you must present the signed parent’s consent before the start of the expedition.
Where can I register and reserve my slot?
To register, please log on to http://freeenergy.ph/visayantrilogy. We will send you an email confirming your registration.
Is my slot guaranteed after registration?
