Default Waterslide decal paper for graphics

I've found a good place to get waterslide decal paper for deck graphics.
DecalPaper.com - Decals - Waterslide decal paper or inkjet, laser printers Alps & copiers
A little harder to work with than transparency film but a lot better than rice paper in my opinion, unless your using epoxy to coat your deck. It takes fewer clear coats to hide the graphics cut edges then transparency does.

looking graphics on my decks.Just find the picture or design you want scan it,print it,apply it.
Im so stoked, thanks for the tip.BTW Im in Fresno so let me know if you want to hit a hill or garage.

Awesome. Glad I could help. What kind of clear finish are you going to use? Polycrylic works great for covering up the cut edges of the decal paper.
I'm not doing a whole lot of skating right now. I re-injured an old injury in my foot from when I was hit by a car so I'm kinda relegated to making boards. Hopefully soon I'll be back to functional. Although I do still cruise around now and then against the orders of my Doc and my wife

I wasn't sure what to use,so I just used the Krylon clear acrylic I had to coat the decal sheet.
What brand of poly-acrylic do you use.

I use the krylon clear for the paper itself, then coat my decks with Polycrylic. You can pick it up almost anywhere. It's water based so no horrible smell. It even comes in spray cans but I prefer the brush on.

I use an HP inkjet and it works just fine. Set your printer to the best possible glossy photo print setting and it should turn out great.

There is decal paper made for each type of printer. Just get the type for yours and you shouldn't have a problem.

I have used both and the laser paper is MUCH easier. The inkjet stuff you have to cover in varnish before you use it, the laser stuff is ready to go straight from teh printer.

to widen up the discussion a bit, what about plotters?

Is it cheap to get a A4 plotter which cut out the stencil? Does the plotter actually prints out the design, or do we have to print it in a lazer printer with the waterslide paper, and then send it to the plotter? Can anyone help? anyone with experience on that?

No. Get the right paper for the right ink, otherwise it won't set.

Whatever you get, you have to seal it before transfer.

The edges disappear into the clearcoat easily if you sand them right on the spot between coats.

They make two kinds, white base and clear. Order the clear if you have a white deck, the white otherwise.

My biggest trouble has been with the white paper and my cat logo(avatar). I cut the flames out with an exacto knife, but where it fades it is hard to get it right. Best solution so far was to re-build the logo, and use a photo of the wood area it's going on for the background layer in photoshop. I still cut it with a knife but the edge matched up great.

I have two printers, an Epson R300 and a 2200. Both work great, though the 2200 left streaks and I had to raise the rollers. I've been using the stuff for a while, it rocks.

Well it all depends on what your doing, if doing mainly paints such as myself, then plotters are the way to go, but when i have an extra 1500 kicking around after a couple other tools i will be buying a decent 24" wide or so plotter, because it can save me so much work.

But thats quite a ways off unless i win the lottery, or there is a sudden craze in everyone wanting dancers lol

The basic instructions on waterslide paper are: Print the image you want onto the paper and let the ink dry. After it dries spray the image with crystal clear coat paint and let that dry. Cut the image out and soak it in clean water for about 45 seconds until the decal paper separates from the backing sheet. Apply the image to the surface of the deck and smooth out any bubbles with a dry cloth.
