Baltic Birch is by far the easiest to get a hold, use, and generally the cheapest. It has good flex and takes stains very nicely. Maple is also an option, its stiffer (which can be good or bad), can be bent much further, and holds shape better IMO, but is a little more expensive.

For what you're doing I would defiantly recommend Birch. If you don't have a press you can also use a solid oak board or make a simple V-lam using any mixture of oak, maple, purpleheart, or a dozen other hard/exotic woods. Basically just stay away from "Home Depot Bitch" the 4x8 sheets made up of two plys bitch and filler layer. The stuff is junk and will snap the first time you look at it funny. For glue I highly recommend Titebond III. Good luck.

    baltic birch or maple.
for baltic birch, look for the b/bb grade wood.
efg pretty much said everything you need to know. birch is cheaper, flexier, and easier to find, while maple is generally stiffer and more expensive.
titebond III also works miracles. i prefer it over epoxy

I used 2 layers of 1/4 inch baltic birch from menards,my local menards have american baltic birch decent quality(best comes from russia in 5x5 sheets) just get the best they got.Mine its nice, I am 180 lbs. and i jump on it and wont brake(yet). My wheel base is 37 inch. but i wont recommend longer wheel base for someone with my weight.
My first deck was a 3 plys of 1/4 and its really stiff ,its like a tank!!! and heavy.I did some research on woodcrafters forums and seems like menards sells the best baltic birch of any big box store, and for top quality go to your local lumber shop and they will get it for you.

    my first one

I use 4 layers of 1/8 inch baltic birch, perfect flex and yoiu can shape into any way you want. Does anyone know how to mix woods, i see boards with different colour stripes down it, it looks like a different wood, how do i do that?
    You can't rush speed.

    ALWAYS
    sacrifice body to save board.

Those are vlams. Glue strips of wood together, plane or level the surfaces, cut out the profile and done ( well, add finish like poly or spray lacquer). Some boards are vlams with an hlam.
