    Default Homemade dervish help.

I am looking to make my second board a sort of shortened dervish shape. This is because the first one i built got wheel bite way to easy and i wanted to cut it out entirely. I am wondering about the dimensions of it. I attempted to make a model of what im trying to find out but it sucked so i went with this. i would also like to mention that i am trying to find the major tail length (part at end with alot of curve) and minor length (next part that is really short will slight curve) thanks everyone.

hey, i just made a dervish look a like board and i have no issues at all with wheel bite.
I meased the tail/nose and they are seven inches, and the curve that goes outto the wider part of the board is three inches. my board is 40 and a half inches by the way. hope this helps you out man

you could subtract the wheel base of a dervish by the whole length then divide that by two to get the nose length. and then i would jsut eyeball the other part so it works. you can always change it so it is how you want. Like more/less nose or tail etc.

or you can get an offcut piece of plywood and use your guesstimates and use the offcut pieces to work out how much you need to cut off before you start your final one.

Well...thats atleast what I did when I made my board dropthrough

You'll be off by a couple inches using that method (you will get a value from the nose to the axle, not the entire length of the nose). Using a graph and an image of the dervish I got a length of about 6" for the "major part" and 3" for the "minor part". Those dimensions will ultimately depend on where you mount the trucks.

I would use a scrap piece of wood as mentioned above and mount the trucks on it as you would on your dervish. Turn the trucks as far as they go and make a trace to give you an idea of how much of a cutout you would need. Shape that scrap piece the way you want it and use it as a template.

no rmelen you would get from inner holes to the nose. which would tell you where to place truck and get other measurements.

Wheel base is measured from axle to axle, not inner holes. Your formula thus gives the distance from the tip to the axle. Depending on the trucks that go on the board you may not have the same wheel base (using the same mounting holes) since the king pin angle varies from truck to truck. Even if you did have the measurements to the inner hole, that is not the measurements that flybunny was asking for.

Edit: ^ I know I've seen that posted somewhere before. You should add the distance from tip to one of the mounting holes for those who don't have a drop through template.

I realize what you are saying, but generally wheelbase is measured from inner hole to inner hole because as you said not al trucks axles are the same. So loaded's measurement of WB for the Dervish should be from inner hole to inner hole. Most baseplates are the same length so if he placed the truck there that would give him what he needed.

I am recreating the Dervish too, but I want to know if you could please include more dimensions, like the gap spacings where the trucks go through, and the outer width of the wood on the sides of that. I would EXTEREMELY appreciate it, if you could fill these in.
    Thanks.

Does getting the exact measurements really matter? Just get some plates and other large round things in your house and start drawing on the wood.

You definitely won't make a replica dervish.... but is that a bad thing?

Instead you'll get something that's slightly different in the way you chose. Have you thought that maybe the dervish shape is not perfect? Loaded is not God. I would change some things about that board. So I would just make it how I felt it should be starting from my basic ideas as to what the board should do. Do I want the platform to be really wide and comfy? Or is the weight reduction by making a narrow platform worth it? Do I want extra platform or do I need more wheel clearance? Do I want it round or sharp-edged? Blah blah blah. The process can go on forever but usually I'm satisfied after a bit of drawing.

    I mean.....

    Buy a DKLB!

    [/plug]

    No but serious.

That's the DKLB interpretation of the dervish.

I started with the idea of the dervish but then I changed a bunch of ####. And you can see how the board is different. But it's not a bad thing.

Don't start with numbers in your head. Start with ideas in your head. And then turn that into numbers. It shouldn't go from numbers to ideas.

But wondering does the long nose and tail hit inclines with the camber.
And your finish work is awesome.

    Arrow Tan Tien

Does anyone know the dimensions of Loaded's most recent board, the Tim Tam Tan Tien? I like the shape and want to model something like it. Also, how do you make a board with a tail?
