so what exactly do you use for the bag part, i know you said the rubberized foil type of thing, but where do i get it. I am kind of new to this and i am now looking for a vacuum pump, what should i get? price range is pretty low but i was looking at the west systems one and it says 20 mm Hg, that equates to .026 atmospheres of pressure, is that enough?i really want to do more all wood boards instead of the foam core because i don;'t really know about them, so do i need more pressure? Also, what foam do you use for the mold? thanks, and i hope i'm not probing to much

    Thanks
    CJ Dudley

    Hey Rusty - "I thought I saw a puddy cat, I thought I saw a puddy!"

Go back and look at his pics then read his description carefully.

The mold takes the place of half of the bag with the foil acting as the other half.

The "Puddy" seals acts as the seal between the two.

If you think I/we are being hard on you, you're right but only because we care.

If you weren't trying to figure this out then hopefully using it instead of blathering useless posts, you'd be proverbial road shmear. You are trying to use this right?

If you are really interested, contact Eastern Burlap Supply in Norfolk VA - a boat building supply shop.
Was in there two days ago and found an excellent reference on boat building using vacuum bagging that goes into more detail on Wefunk's technique. Costs a few dollars but was very clear.
As an alternative, Google "Sailboard building vacuum bagging". Several books out there but most delve into more detail with regard to shaping the foam cores (which is not a bad thing to know) than the actual process of vacuum bagging.

now i get it. i thought his vaccum bag was a complete bag, or am i still confussed? i am not going to be building one right away but i am trying to learn so i can eventually build a tightslalom board.

i'll prolly be getting a ?roarokit? bag so will i not need puddy? i hope to just get 1 layer 1/4" birch and another player of something more flexy so i can put glass on either side.

    glass stiffens stuff up right?

What foam do you use for the board itself? Where do you get it from and is there anywhere to get small amounts?

would you be really running into trubble if you used regular pink insulation foam? is that completely not strong enough? i was thinking about having an 1/8" wood core with 2" slots cut out of the length and then fitted with this foam. good idea, bad idea? any help is much appriciated

    Hey Alex,

What do you use to trim the board shape out once its been done? A router? Or a sander?
