    Default My homemade boards

Hi, ever since I joined silverfish I have started building my own boards. I have very limited access to longboards because the market is minimal and with all the boards, designs, riders, tips and info I found on SF I got inspired and started building.

It wasn't easy, I failed a few times with getting the wood ready, but again, I read more and more on SF and I am getting it down now. For me getting a good strong piece of wood was the hardest part. The limited wood supply here, glueing, pressing, routing, sawing was hard.

But it's all good and I finally have my second deck ready, it came out so sweet I had to share. Let me know what you think of it. I really value the comments of the people on here.

Thanks for the replies on drop through mounting, hangar bite, bushings and all of you who have your boards posted on SF.

My first build was a mini, very basic construction:

    http://www.silverfishlongboarding.co..._6835821_n.jpg

And my most recent build was a drop through bomber:

Wood: 10 ply flat no concave/camber
Shape: Wider front, less at the back, wheel cutouts
    Lenght: 39"
    Width: 9 3/4"
    Mounting: Drop-through mounted
Grip: Girl brand - Mob grip

    Trucks: Randall RII 180mm
    Wheels: Abec11 97mm 78a flywheels
    Bearings: Abec11 Biltins
    Bushings: Destructo medium

Keep doing what you're doing guys, great work.

    Peace-out | Randy G

Sure man, here you go. No graphic yet, i just finished it like an hour ago. I have a friend who lives abroad and airbrushes so I'm keeping it blank until he gets here. He can do some magic.

PS: see the washers on the nuts? I got those off aluminum roof nails. The washer has some kind of rubber under it for sealing. Thought it would come in handy against vibration.

Nice builds... I especially like the shape of the mini! How are the 97mm? I've been thinking of getting some to cruise in my neighborhood. The street is rough asphalt with a really rocky texture. Just not sure if they will improve the ride enough to justify the cost?

They are great, got em off my hamboard lol. They are on the heavy side, but they roll over everything and I can slide em, no wheelbite. I have ordered some abec11 77mm strikers and a set of black 180mm RII's for this board. They should be here in two weeks, i hope

not bad for a 2nd build.

Looks like those gigantic wheels would lead to some wheel bite.

Start messing around with concave and you'll be making some nice stuff.

Yeah, no wheelbite yet, but it's pretty close indeed. Will swap those for 77mm strikers soon. Concave and camber is a whole other world. I will be getting into that for the next one mos def.

I saw some boards with something called a stringer, which (maybe you know already) looks like a thinner deck, 4-5 ply, with concave and the stringer is like a piece of wood in the middle below it, for support. I might be doing something like that, concave really helps the ride and feel.

Concave makes a difference depending on use. For a cruise-around slowridin board a flat deck is kinda nice, but I kinda like the locked in feeling that good a good concave has.

Honestly after I get the supplies and do my board art, if reception is good I may end up considering making boards and just throwing down original designs on original decks. We'll see how that goes I guess. Cool stuff though, makes sense if you can't buy what you want make it.

stringers are interesting, you can get some real cool flex feeling out of em cause of that mid line thicker area. A very cool idea to look into. keep up the good work.

i really like your first board, im new to longboarding and i have skateboarded for quiet awhile now so i was wondering how fast you can carve with it, cause im wanting to build my own and my aim is something that rides wheel at good speeds with out speed wobble and with what i can go past objects very fast e.g. people in the city. i tought making a kicktail would be a good idea for very fast maneuver but since this would be the first time i make a board i should start a little simple, so i dont waste all the wood. could you tell me about how your mini board rides, would be helpful for my project.
    good evening bitches.

I'd be amazed if the nuts stay anywhere near as well as proper skate hardware, the skate stuff's call ny-loc nuts. They have a small ring of nylon which is 'cut' by the bolt when you screw them on, which keeps it in place. That's why you never put on hardware that you've taken off and why you should really buy the proper stuff. It'll start to wobble more and more as you use it.
