Alright people idea change. im using 4 layers of BB. with a 2 1/2wide by 1/8 aluminum. and inlaying it where the truck mounts connect to the center platform. then glassin over the bottom. to keep that in there

what is the fascination with fiberglass, i have never put that junk on my car, or a skateboard. It is shite, it is poison, i wouldn't want to stand on the stuff for fear of my slip ons getting sick. I wouldn't make a skateboard with fiberglass on it or in it ever. It isn't recyclable, it's not edible! It can't stand, it can't walk, can't do nothing. drop it. then show what you have made, you be lifted, high on shoulders and applauded for your use of regional materials on world travel, universally known as a sound builder. artificial materials will always be that

as for the OP, you should test it out if you have the materials, im not sure about using epoxy on metal, you would probably want to rough up the surface to give it something to adhere too.

as for everyone saying it will be insanely stiff/heaving etc. thats all based on how much/ thick steel he uses and how it is implemented in the design. just because wood/composites are the norm doesn't mean its the only thing that will work.

I'm really open minded about materials... there are tons of opportunities for materil mixing that haven't been explored... different materials have different properties that can compliment each other sometimes... a little bit of educated guessing & a little bit of experimentation... fun and sometimes you come up with cool stuff.

im totally for experimentation with materials, but not at the expense of function. using wood and metal just does not seem like it would benefit. theres already aluminum boards that are the thickness of 3 plies of wood but weigh the same as any wood deck. it just seems like there would be added (read: wasted) weight on the board.

if you can figure something out that works, that would be great! you have all my encouragement to at least try. like you said, it just takes an educated guess. GOOD LUCK!

I'd like to try an aluminum honeycomb core. Kind of like nomex,but much cheaper. I remember the old Hexcel skiis that had 'em. I also think shiny metal is sexy, so go for it.
